We saw Etta James performed in Los Angeles more than 20 years ago an for some reason Brazile this evening reminded us of her dirty old woman presentation.

(25,538 posts)Both Bill and the guest on today's show were put in an awkward position. When Donna kept calling them "baby" "boo" "honey" and when she said she felt like a cat on a hot tin roof. Bill said, well, that's not a good thing, Donna said "You never know what kind of pussy you're dealing with." Unprofessional.

(54,770 posts)There were several times when she was really funny and on point. Generally, I groan when I see/hear shes on any show. Shes better than GOPers.

(4,238 posts)A couple of jokes - ok, but she kept that shit up the whole show and it was just cringey.

(25,538 posts)He said, Obviously you drank it, but she denied it. Hard to discuss serious topics like Afghanistan and climate change when a guest is in a mood to entertain because tipsy.
She thought Nina Turner saying Joe Biden was shit was fine, not a reason for Nina's loss. Bill wasn't having it. Calling voting for Biden was voting for shit and not endorsing Hillary. No.

(7,282 posts)Bill Maher is to put it plainly, simply a jerk. Not funny. Not entertaining. Why people watch is a little weird to me.

(7,282 posts)My guess is that Maher manipulates viewers using the same old playbook that churns out just enough good ole' red meat bait to wet the appetite of progressives, hooking them with a "funny" signifying he's in agreement, and then bang!
He's captured enough eyes and ears to keep them coming back for more and keep his ratings up enough from being cancelled. That's how the game works, and in Maher's case, he swings "both ways" plays on the full spectrum.
How can he not lose?
I think our culture loses, but that ship sailed a long tome ago.

(7,282 posts)But I recall I had to do a personal boycott so often, and get sucked back in like a fish on a hook.
Chastising myself for taking his baits. "New Rules" appear on my youtube feeds, but I'm never tempted to "click" anymore.

(19,066 posts)She kind of took over the whole show though. Bill was totally off his game because of her.

(10,832 posts)She was just letting it all hang out and saying what she thought without a filter. Was it possible she had a shot or two before walking out? Sure. But who cares? She's of age.
The back and forth made me laugh. The girlfriend was having a good time and that can be rare in the times we are a-living.
Btw, she looked good, too.

(4,575 posts)I enjoyed her and Donna Brazile last night. It was the first time this show has been a hoot in a while. I don't understand what everyone on here is so uptight about. Bill Maher is still a comedian. It's not Meet the Press. Lighten up.

(47,487 posts)She just cut him off and really dominated the show until it was time for New Rules.
Yes, it happens often when one guest dominates the show but at least they have something to contribute. With her it was all about her.

(1 post)She's usually quite serious and even forceful when she's been on the show in the past. Don't think Bill Maher was prepared for her opposite behavior - did seem to throw him off a bit. I thought she was (probably unintentionally) rude to the podcast guy since she wouldn't stop talking. Real Time is a nice mix of comedy and news commentary. His comedy is very witty and clever. Some people love it, some are underwhelmed. He wanted to talk about serious issues last night (climate, Afghanistan, Cuomo). The only one she got serious about was the toxic workplace; otherwise she seemed 3 sheets to the wind. Too silly for me. Best shows are good political/social discussions w/panel and leave the comedy to Maher.

(1,184 posts)She's not DNC chair or managing a campaign anymore. And Realtime is a late-night comedy show with some blue humor. Unless I missed some reference by her to having a drink, I think she was just enjoying the moment.
