Idk if I have covid or food poisoning. Late last night I ate some frozen pizza bites as a quick snack. But I have no idea if that would cause my stomach pain specifically around my intestinal tract. I'm also getting chills and standing for too long is giving me extremely bad sweats. I also have head pressure atm. Though I can still smell and taste quite strongly. Not coughing just yet or have chest pain. Except for anxiety.
I need some caring words atm since I've been off and on sleeping with pain in my stomach. So needless to say. Cue mega anxiety attacks

(14,858 posts)If you have Covid-19, it's much better to know it sooner rather than later.

(5,172 posts)My brother-in-law had those symptoms during his Covid the first couple days, then headaches very bad, then a few days later trouble breathing and cough.
If you have food poisoning, you exhibit those symptoms to.
With either one of those illness, drink lots of fluids. Sip all day long. If you can have some toast with a little cinnamon and sugar on it, try that.
If you start coughing do NOT take cough suppressants.
If it gets to a point where you need a doctor, go don't wait.
I hope you get well quickly, keep us posted.

(8,203 posts)Look at it this way: if the test is positive, you'll be able to get monoclonal antibodies early enough for them to be highly effective. Rachel said that they are 80% effective in preventing either hospitalization or death. (I wish I could remember which.) And of course if you are vaccinated, you're adding that on top of the protection you've gotten from the vaccine. But you need to take them quickly while your symptoms are relatively mild. So please get tested today.
And if the test is negative, you won't have to worry about covid. It could be food poisoning as you think, but I hope some of the medical professionals here will weigh in on what else it could be (gastroenteritis? gall bladder?) and whether you should go to a walk-in clinic.
I know you are looking for empathy, not advice. I do care, and I'm responding like this in the hope that knowledge will help to reduce some of your anxiety.

(17,298 posts)they will know best how to treat it. Even if they send you back home, it seems to me you would be in a better position if it is covid and worsens to receive treatment like the plasma treatment if needed.
If it isnt covid you will be able to relax a good bit and move to the step of figuring out what it is.

(21,360 posts)but frozen pizza is one of the least healthy foods to eat. I keep an oxygen sensor at home to check myself, and a thermometer. If your oxygen levels are good and you don't have a fever and you can smell and don't have a cough or trouble breathing, these are all good signs. Getting tested will give you peace of mind though. Still, with that said, if you don't have Covid you still want to get rid of whatever you have. See a doctor if you don't improve.

(50,955 posts)That's just another fallout from this crap. Every time I've gotten symptoms this year, I freak out. And as I tend to have strong seasonal allergies, I have had some anxious moments.

(21,360 posts)My 88 year old golfing buddy gave me his cold. We are both vaccinated but of course the first thought is he gave me Covid. Well my buddy went to the doctor and got checked out and yeah he had a cold. The thing with being vaccinated though is it reduces the symptoms of Covid so one is never 100% sure unless accurately tested.
An oxygen sensor is cheap and very reliable and it gives me a bit of peace of mind. I had A-fib off and on for about 8 years until I just had a successful ablation, knock on wood. I also have this hiatal hernia that mimics the symptoms of A-fib, so I just have to take my blood pressure to confirm that yeah, my heart is in rhythm. Now, if there was some gadget to give me confidence for those 3 foot putts, no gimmies with my 88 year old buddy.

(23,105 posts)I know as I'm one of them. I get drainage down my throat and that makes me cough. I don't have it, but the cough has been there on and off for years. It's not even a bad cough and during certain times of year goes away entirely. Oxygen getting low is one of the bad symptoms so if that happens, even a tiny bit, get tested. That's how I knew I might have it, and yep, I did. Struggled with the oxygen and heart issues, but with good advice from my nurse friend, I made it through!
Her best advice - GET SUPER HYDRATED, eat semi-soft food as much as possible for extra hydration and move around as much as possible, even if it's holding on to something or someone - move around! Check your oxygen if feeling faint/weak/dizzy, even a bit. If it gets down to 80 (and doesn't bound right up to over 90 quickly) go to the hospital.

(23,105 posts)Thank God she called me, I really don't know if I would have made it through without hospitalization otherwise. I had no idea I was doing so badly until I talked to her. I followed her instructions religiously, was determined to beat this.

(32,086 posts)This sounds like that or some other gastrointestinal issue, like diverticulosis or a gastrointestinal virus. You should have it checked out. Does your local hospital have an "urgent care" facility nearby? If the pain is on your right side, go to the ER, and there's a good chance it's appendicitis.

(10,156 posts)A couple years ago I had a abscess growing on the side of my intestines that ruptured and led to near sepsis. I had a tear in my intestines as well from just too much strain. Ended up in the hospital for almost two weeks. So yeah it's probably that I wouldn't think about it cuz I haven't had any problems for a while

(32,086 posts)That, and you haven't been showing any respiratory symptoms for what is primarily a respiratory virus. Here's hoping this is just a mild flare-up that won't require anything more than some dietary adjustments, and maybe a round of antibiotics.

Good luck. I hope it is nothing serious, but please get it checked.

(1,450 posts)Be sure to get checked for diverticulitis: Not trying to give any medical advice but I just had this and spent two night and three days in hospital. You may no have this but you should get checked as soon as possible, especially if there is bleeding upon defacation. It is very, very painful. No temperature with mine, tho. Testing is very necessary. This is jus ONE thing you might consider Over within two to three days with good antibiotics and anti-parasite meds. Get better soon.

And I think Ask a Nurse is a free phone call to everyone. Just a public service.
If they think it might be indicting COVID over a bad food choice they would advise you of what to do.
I don't think they want COVID anxious people overwhelming Emergency Rooms unless it is an actual Emergency.
