What is the matter with Florida governors? Remember

Jeb Bush inserting himself into the case of Terry Schiavo?

Governor Jeb Bush's brief does not yet seem to have had any effect. In his brief, known as an "amicus curiae" brief (a brief provided by a disinterested adviser to the court), he argued that it might be unconstitutional to allow Ms Schiavo to die without testing her to see whether she can swallow, a test she has already failed.

Besides filing the brief he has instructed his legal staff to find out whether there is a way that the judge's original 2002 order to remove the feeding tube could be found to be unconstitutional.

DeSantis needs to get his mitts out of Florida's healthcare. He's grandstanding at the expense of lives here. I think a nice class action suit against him should be filed; there are plenty of people who could join.

And honestly even when Charlie Crist was a Republican he wasn’t too bad.

Of course that might have explained the future party switch.

The rest have been pretty awful, I’ll give you that.

2. DeSantis is protected (I think) because he is acting in his official role.

See, Republican Governors have the right to directly implement policies that kill people. As long as it is presented as directed at POC and Others that the base doesn’t like, then killing people is okay. Unfortunately, now there is the spillover and he’s killing the Others, but also his base.

But that’s okay too, as long as enough of his base survives - then he can become President and kill the nation, like his idol tries to do. MAGA is truly the mark of the beast.

I can understand policy disagreements. But, when the issue is life and death, the guy favoring death is the wrong guy.

5. Until Jeb Bush was elected Florida only had one RepuQ governor since Reconstruction

And we had some very good Democratic governors - Spessard Holland, Lawton Chiles, Bob Graham among them.

Since the Repuqs took hold of the state government, elections have been weird if not outright rigged and gerrymandering has made for some very odd looking districts. I'm not sure Florida will ever be able to get back to fair elections and sane districts since we can't seem to get rid of the Repuqs and their domination of our election system.

Oh, that one RepuQ governor, Claude Kirk, was kicked out after only one term. He was a terrible governor, tried to roll back desegregation, tried to build a huge airport in the Everglades, and indirectly caused the Teacher's Strike in 1968. We were happy to see him voted out of office in 1970.
