What is today in Haitian history -230 years ago to the day the Revolution began

I don't know what to say people. Except, 230-years ago today, a revolution started on August 14, 1791 that shook the entire World of white body-led slavery, forced assimilation, direct colonialism, human trafficking and the terroristic slave trade...

On the night of August 14, 1791, representative slaves from nearby plantations gathered to participate in a secret ceremony conducted in the woods by nearby Le Cap in the French colony of Saint-Domingue.

Haiti I'm Sorry

I was trying to respond on the other thread but it was locked as a dupe.

Toussant was kick ass.

A real leader and freedom fighter.

America (Jefferson) and France were real losermen and demanded reparations. I think this is one of the reasons Haiti is still such a poor nation as it couldn't be allowed to succeed.

The US also embargoed trade with the nascent state. American merchants had conducted a substantial trade with the plantations on Hispaniola throughout the 18th century, the French-ruled territory providing nearly all of its sugar and coffee. However, once the Haitian slave population emancipated itself, the US was reluctant to continue trade for fear of upsetting the evicted French on one hand and its Southern slaveholders on the other.

If we don't like their politic, we ruin their economy to prove that their system doesn't work.

Just researched, and found out Pat Robertson started that bullshit.

Deeply sorry.

A long time sympathizer and student of Haiti and her incredibly enduring people.

Thanks for reminding me. What Louverture started was what made the white slave owners of the US south so terribly afraid that they would fight a war to prove their 'superiority' (sarcasm).

Louverture's spirit and that of Dessaline, not to mention Cecile Fatiman and Dutty Boukman have fed the spirits of the Haitian people ever since. They will not be defeated. Of that I am sure.

Stay safe down there in the islands. Fred tips to the west and here in New Orleans anytime a storm tips to the west I get ready.
