(3,557 posts)And place the blame on Biden as it occurred during his presidency.
But, with the American people, Im willing to bet everyone will seem to forget about the fall of Afghanistan and move on to some other outrage in another week or two. Perhaps Im too cynical, but Im sure mostAmericans probably already forgot where Afghanistan is and probably didnt realize that we were still even in that country 20 years after the war started there.
Look at the Bush recession of 2007. It happened at the end of his presidency yet many people place blame for it on Obama.

Ex Lurker
(3,816 posts)maybe it was hard to get a flight out. Maybe they thought they had more time. Whatever the reason, they're there.

(32,093 posts)They were told to leave. They should be at the Kabul airport waiting for a flight out. At this point its on them. Just like the unvaxx. If their "moral obligations" tells them to be in harms way no matter what common sense says then it is on them.

(578 posts)in these type of situations as being profoundly stupid. You gotta accept reality and leave when you are told to leave regardless of how you morally feel about the situation. It reminds me of those journalist that risked their lives and got killed in middle east countries to get a story. I felt bad for the journalists but didn't feel the US government should have been blamed for their deaths since they put themselves in that situation.
It also pissed me off when Obama got blamed for that death of that young 19-20 year old kid who went on a vacation trip in North Korea. That kid was stupid for going there in the first place. When you play with fire you always put yourself at risk of getting burned.

(5,008 posts)They were told to leave. Period. If they choose to stay for whatever reason that is on them.

(101,385 posts)It's not like there are regular commercial flights with spaces on that they can all just book when it turns out the Taliban has overwhelmed the Afghan military before then.
People in Afghanistan working for NGOs and embassies, and the media, are not "just like the unvaxx". That's a ridiculous thing to say.

(1,184 posts)I do think the vast majority of Americans understand that this situation further shows how we need to be gone. Oddly, skepticism about nation-building has been something that Republicans and Democrats are coming to some agreement on in recent years.
The ones who will be outraged by Afghanistan's fall are Fox News anchors. They can't wait to pin this on Biden. I wouldn't worry beyond that.
Mr.Bill
(24,334 posts)I believe he actually though the Middle East would be Methodists by now.
While his dad and his VP and cabinet were like hogs at the trough lapping up profits for their various business interests and investments. Halliburton, Carlyle Group, etc.

(11,384 posts)insular, and pretty ill informed. Disasters in far away places don't have a lot of pull. Covid (and any measures taken to address) is, IMO, a much bigger player. There is also the fact that despite the loss of life (to, once again, brown skinned people that live far away) the pull out of American troops is largely popular with the American people, across the political spectrum.

(2,343 posts)They didn't. That's on them. President Biden decided to rip the bandaid off. It needed to be done, and most Americans agree with doing so. If there ever was a shithole country list (and we all have our own list!), Afghanistan is on it.
My only complaint is not evacuating the interpreters and embassy beforehand.
