These translators risked their lives to help Americans save our troops lives. I hope they rethink this now that Afghanistan has fallen. This will leave themselves and their families at risk.

(83,846 posts)I hope none of the translators will have to hide in a closet in fear of being raped. They now stand alone and don't have a Capital Police to protect them.
Yes the bill passed. Their symbolic vote?

(9,030 posts)"The Squad" voted against the money for the Capitol Police? I was not aware of it and don't understand it.

(83,846 posts)Their vote didn't matter because it would pass anyway? They stood in unity, all 4 of them against the capitol police that risked their lives and own mental health to save them and those like them. They voted against the interpreters who risked their lives saving American lives, male and female.
Frankly I don't know what any of them stand for anymore. I had high hopes for Pressley. No more.

(67,782 posts)In fact none of the six voted for the first iteration of the bill that was sent to the Senate. Three voted "Nay" and three voted "Present". That bill passed by one vote.
All other Democrats voted for it, all republicans voted against it. Had even one of the 210+ Democrats gotten stuck in traffic or had not been able to vote for some reason, the vote would have tied and the bill would have failed.

Yes, an Excellent day to remind us of what was said then and what's happening right now.
I am embarrassed for them. They made a political stand. It was the wrong stand.
