ICU doctor and NBC News analyst Vin Gupta is urging Texans to take note of the actions of Gov. Greg Abbott (R) after he tested positive for the coronavirus on Tuesday.
Abbott has actively thwarted efforts to contain the coronavirus pandemic by banning mask and vaccine mandates.
Yet once he was infected, he was given Regenerons monoclonal antibody treatment, despite being fully vaccinated and having no symptoms.
Gupta, a pulmonologist, tweeted:

(2,039 posts)They need to get TV ads in production right away that nail this bastard for what he's done to Texas during the pandemic and for how he received world-class treatment when his own precious hide contracted Covid.
And do the same for Ron DeathSentence and all the other fully vaxxed Republican governors who are doing everything they can to make Covid worse in the hope of making Biden look bad so that people blame him and not TFG for the pandemic.
God how I hate these Republican governors!

(2,039 posts)We (the Dems) are supposed to be the smart ones. We're like the three guys in that movie Office Space who want to launder the money they embezzled from the company they worked for, and they have to look up what "money laundering" means in the dictionary!
Why doesn't the DNC have a Lincoln Project or a marketing department or 1,000 AM radio stations attacking Republicans?
I think it's time for the DNC to get waaay more aggressive in their messaging.

(10,434 posts)just what the DNC goal is, when they seem to ignore so many ways that would help elect democrats.
Electing democrats, and opposing republicon scum should be their main goal.

(10,434 posts)things like this are the reason they wonder.
Howard Dean had a massively successful program for electing Democrats. A 50-state strategy. DNC-types kicked him to the curb, and abandoned it. Too much winning, I guess. Guess which party now has a "50-state strategy".
Among other strategies. And we have. . . .

(81,421 posts)Our side doesnt seem to understand how vitally important strategic messaging is! They just dont seem to understand it. And I dont understand that!
republi-CONS are good at bad things - like attack messaging and lies and convoluted sales talk thats for shit but sounds good/smart/shrewd.
And what have WE got? Besides a whole lotta naïveté with a side of nothing?
Democrats are lousy at it. And have been for a long time. Without much of ANY understanding of how strategically valuable it is!
Its really hard to comprehend that poor comprehension! It is staggeringly sucky.

(2,039 posts)I think if we as individuals were to contact the DNC and say, "Hey, em-effers! Why aren't we seeing Lincoln Projectstyle TV ads outta you guys?!" that they would just blow us off and go their merry way.
But Indivisible has gained national publicity as a grassroots organization. If we made the suggestion to them, maybe they would run with it and either launch a Lincoln Project themselves or put pressure on the DNC to do so.
Hmm . . .

(81,421 posts)Thats a most interest idea!
I wonder if Ezra Levin has thought of it? Ive attended several of his Zoom meetings. Im active in two groups up here now. Havent heard anything - yet, anyway.
You dont have to pay dues or anything to join Indivisible, so I have no idea about their funding. Besides, we seldom talk about money. Its always about action.
LaMouffette
(2,039 posts)to take action on the latest pressing situation, such as calling their senators. Here's an excerpt from their latest email (which maybe you got too, since you're involved with Indivisible (and by the way, bravo to you for that! I need to get more involved with them):
The top way were doing that is continuing to drive calls into senators offices -- especially Senators Carper, Coons, Manchin, and Sinema, who have positioned themselves as the last Dem holdouts on doing whatever it takes to build a better democracy. No matter who your senators are, they need to hear from you that their constituents deserve and demand legislation that gets money out of politics, makes voting easier, and unrigs our democracy.
They always include a donation link in their emails. That must be one way they get their funding. I would gladly donate if it meant funding a pro-Democrat/Progressive marketing campaign like the Lincoln Project that included TV ads, YouTube ads, etc.

Instead of looking to the sky for some "Schmidtonian" savior, maybe look into the DU ranks and organize something that some are speaking of. There are plenty of very smart, witty, passionate folks right here. Organize something from the seeds that already exist here into an external tour de force. I'm game

And, like you say, recruit from our ranks. Hmm . . . !

But if he did die despite being vaccinated, they would just use that to further scare the stupid booger-eating MAGAts about the "dangerous vaccine that don't work".

(3,064 posts)The accident that put him in a wheelchair occurred when he was jogging in an affluent area of Houston. After a storm an oak tree fell, crushing his spine. It was 1984 and he was 26.
He sued the house owner, a prominent Houston divorce attorney, along with the tree service company, which had inspected the tree a few months ago and pronounced it sound.
The attorney who owned the house thought he had a good case but was fully insured and let it go.
This is a tragedy for sure, but it's so unusual a non atheist could even consider it " an act of God."
These people were certainly less at fault than if a drunk driver had hit him and broken his back. Or if a gunman had paralyzed him with a pistol shot.
As of now, Abbott has collected $6,000,000. If he lives until a normal age he'll have collected $9,000,000.
And when he was an Associate Justice on the Texas Supreme Court he voted with a ruling to cap damages such as these to $250,000.
He's kept the extra $5,750,000 he's received and I'm sure he has no intention of returning it.

(2,853 posts)Abbott, DeathSentence and most other rich republicans are likely invested in Regeneron's monoclonal antibody treatment. You don't vaccinated, get sick, go to the hospital and hopefully they treat you with that and/or whatever other treatments they've invested in. They make big money.
Anyone feel exploited yet?

(790 posts)That the hope of Abbott, and other elected officials like DeSantis, is that there will enough of a die-off of folks who wouldn't be likely to re-elect them. If folks not in that group get sickened and die, so be it. They took one for the team. It's exactly what Trump did when he sat on his hands while 500,000 Americans died. He hated the idea of Americans wearing masks, even when he knew then that SARS-CoV-2 was airborne. Abbott, DeSantis and Trump are menaces to society. They will bust up infrastructures and do little to nothing to save the people they were sworn to serve from a lethal pandemic. This is unpasteurized evil right out in the open for all who care to see it.

question why so many reQublicOns downplayed the coronavirus, and finally realize the repugs they
have been voting for could care less about them and start voting Democrat. They're doing it to make
Biden look bad or they want people to die because of money they have invested in some medical stock.
Personally I hope Karma gives Abbott some payback for all the damage he's done.

(989 posts)They want to reserve the best of everything - medical treatments being a prime example - for themselves. The rabble can take their bleach, hydroxychloroquine and equine dewormer while their betters take monoclonal antibody treatments.
The people of Texas will soon see him for who he truly is - a man who thinks they are simple-minded fools only useful for keeping him in power. Hopefully, this will translate to a humiliating defeat.
