A couple of days ago, I saw a news story on MSNBC. I wasn't really paying attention, but the correspondent was standing on a street corner around some buildings with foreign writing on them and the chyron at the bottom of screen said "Little Kabal."
Again, I wasn't really paying attention. I assumed it was coverage of the fall of Kabal. It seemed very peaceful.
After a while, I realized it wasn't Kabal and I looked up at the top of the screen. It was Fremont, CA where a large number of Afghan refugees live and have their own community. I used to teach 5 miles from there, and I still live very close by.
Well, they've been there for years. Apparently, they haven't taken over yet or caused any trouble. In fact, Fremont is very affluent, almost crime free area. Google the real estate prices.
It is my understanding that the Afghan refugees are well educated, speak English, and are hard working. No doubt more will come to our area to get jobs in Silicon Valley. Welcome!
