9. My parents and family are part of those.

My parents and extended family escaped by boat on the day of the fall of saigon and were picked up by the USN. They came here and were taken in from a family belonging to a catholic church that i was raised in.

I'll also want to add that my parent's generation are extremely vulnerable to fake news as there is an extremely disproportionate amount of "alex jones" type of vietnamese you tubers that are spreading misinformation to them. i've all but stopped speaking to my parents after hearing that they called the pope's call for people to get the vaccine " democrat bullshit" - they are DEVOUT HARDCORE CATHOLICS- i am a lapsed catholic but I admire this pope. They also say crazy stuff like to vote for trump because he promised to re-invade vietnam and turn it into a democracy. I am at a complete loss and am broken for my inability to connect to my parents or anyone from that generation any longer, and there is a huge schism in my family from the elders from that generation and their kids.
