August 22, 2021
The Rev. Jesse Jackson was "doing well" Sunday at a Chicago hospital, a day after he and his wife both tested positive for COVID-19, according to a Greenville attorney who spoke to an aide for the Civil Rights leader.
Greenville attorney and activist Davida Mathis said she was told that Jackson is speaking with doctors who are monitoring his condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Jackson, 79, is a Greenville native who has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. The former Democratic presidential candidate is vaccinated for COVID-19, and Mathis said he appears to be only "mildly ill."
Mathis said Jackson's 77-year-old wife, Jaqueline, had more pronounced symptoms of COVID-19 when the couple arrived at the hospital.
"She was obviously ill," Mathis said.
Mathis said she was told that Jaqueline Jackson has responded to treatment at the hospital and is "doing better" on Sunday.
