Five South Florida cops die in a single week of COVID-19: report



The novel coronavirus has become a leading killer of police officers across the U.S., with five South Florida police officers succumbing to COVID-19 in a single week, according to several police departments.

Florida logged its 3 millionth case of COVID-19 over the weekend, the third state to do so. Only 15 countries worldwide have hit that number. While cases overall fell, deaths rose, USA Today said, citing the state’s department of health.

While Jacksonville is bearing the brunt of the high caseload, law enforcement officials in South Florida noted that five cops had died in a single week, as CNN reported.

Last week, City of Miami Police Chief Art Acevedo noted that four officers had died in the previous week. Two more have died since, according to CNN.

“Just this past weekend, I think we had at least around four officers in the greater South Florida area that have died from COVID,” Acevedo said after a promotion ceremony last Monday, according to WFOR-TV. “So I’m praying for them and their families and hope that some good will come out of those losses.”

That is the percentage of cops that have never said or been involved with the term "Professional Courtesy".This now includes those that don't care enough about the public to not get the shot.

Cops letting off steam after hours can get damned crazy at times, too. An old neighborhood bar here had a stuffed moose head with a bullet hole due to an off-duty detective getting a little nuts one night.

I just cannot imagine being a cop in South Florida.

Let's hope that chief makes them all mask-up and get vaccinated. Should be mandatory for all public servants.
