The taliban de facto attacked the united states via their hosting and support of bin laden and al qaeda. NATO defense treaty was invoked for the first time due to semptember 11th attacks.

We didn't go into afghanistan to nation build. We went in to stop bin laden and al qaeda. That mission was successful when finally after 10 years Obama located and killed bin laden.

Afghanistan was not a mistake. It was not a waste of money. It did not accomplish nothing. Our original mission was accomplished. Most of our troops left afghanistan after 2011.
