General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsJust had a short discussion with an anti vaxxer!
I am at my delivery point here in northwest Iowa. Checked in and was head back to my truck with my mask on(required by receiver). This other driver was mad that they made him return to his truck and get his mask. We crossed paths when he said masks are stupid and he started to say something else when I said masks are better than ventilators and I am more than happy to wear one to save you from any illness. He gave me a dirty look and stormed off in a huff!

(13,596 posts)they don't understand the mask rule, they won't be allowed back. Get it right the first time or you're wasting my time.

(38,958 posts)The driver says something or acts out of line and the response is "get back in your truck, the load is refused and you can explain it to your boss when you get back to your depot."

(13,596 posts)Lewiston, ID. I was a local dairy delivery guy and Rex would make his trucks wait if I was still slamming my stuff away. Direct violation of their rules. You know he thought I was a good guy if he was doing that for me. That means he probably had to help unload to get his guy out of there fast enough.

(38,958 posts)normally I could get the company driver to chill for a few minutes and buy me some time to finish up what was on the dock as long as it was a reasonable amount of time. If it was a liquor vendor unloading (which are all hand stacked cases usually 100-200 per truck) then they just had to grab an extra pallet, pull out and do what they could on their truck. It was a balancing act all day long, but I was lucky to have four dock doors (5 if you count produce on the other side of the building), which made things easier. I had a few company drivers that were unwilling to work with me, but for the most part they would just go grab a drink or use the restroom.

(13,596 posts)called and told them he was not allowed to deliver to their stores in this area! Rotten bastards. The guy was there for almost ten years and they tried to screw him. Frito-Lay worked around it and moved him to a regular rout soon enough

(38,958 posts)never had one vendor or driver say anything nice about them during my 20+ years as a Receiver.

(25,816 posts)"Funny, you don't look stupid." After a few times, Jeannie made me stop.
Once I asked a guy with a pistol and no mask--"You know a gun won't protect you form the virus right?"
Jeannie jerked my arm, and said, "You're going to get shot!"

(21,489 posts)routine apartment inspections of fire alarms, required by their insurance company.
When notified of the date when inspectors were coming a couple weeks ago, I posted a note on my door that said, "Masks required to enter. I have extras if you need one."
When they arrived (2 young guys in early 20s), I stepped into the hall with my KN 95 mask on, saw that neither one had a mask, and handed each of them one. One of them said he was fully vaccinated so he didn't need it. I said, "I don't care. So am I. No mask, no entry." The other one put it on and said his mother and grandmother make him mask up to visit them, too. So they both wore them and I watched to be sure that they fitted the nose pieces first before letting them inside.
No way were they coming inside without one after having been in several apartments before mine.
Over this past weekend, my county went from the CDC "substantial" infection category to "high" along with the surrounding counties. I checked the county health department website and freaked out at the new case, hospitalization, and death figures. I have vowed that NOBODY enters now, not even with a mask.

(1,402 posts)I don't get how stupid some people are. Why don't we all try to help each other and work together to get through this pandemic by getting vaccinated, wearing masks, etc. The world will survive if we all work together and try to keep each other safe. My son's long time friend came to visit last night and after he was in the house, he said he wasn't vaccinated!!! Of course, my son and his significant other have been vaccinated for several months. Vaccines is how we all survived polio and smallpox!!

(9,900 posts)I used to get mad dogged for wearing one before my company pulled me out of my cab to become our first "Night Dispatch" though I don't dispatch loads, just handle comchecks, call ins, looking up load delivery numbers.
Several of our drivers are working "sick" and more are really getting scared by their texts to the boss during the day time. My boss is a conservative but him and all his family are all vaxed, and I've watched him literally all but beg a younger driver to get vaxxd. It must be starting to hit drivers hard.
Protect yourself as best you can. I masked up from the gate, stopped eating indoors (toaster over/microwave fridgej, and I'd even spritz the shower fans with my tiny alcohol spray bottle to suppress the airbourne viral load.. Crazy, but something worked until I came off the road mid February.

(488 posts)A couple are vaccinated but say they are not for what reason idk? I work in a manufacturing environment and its very loud there you have to yell for everything. A couple of the guys won't wear the masks correctly unless a manager says they should and management stopped that long ago. A week ago i strained my voice and got laryngitis. One of the guys came up to me and said i should get tested for covid. i laughed and he stopped and said "seriously you should be tested" right then a lead said we had another job to do so the conversation stopped. I am telling you these people know no bounds they are getting their news from fox and they have a distorted view of reality.
