That should free up a lot of hospital beds.

Another snarky thought I had: the sick ones who now want the vaccine (as if it will cure them!)
Just give them a shot and send them home. Some will live and some will die.

If they return to ER, explain they got the vax too late, no beds available.

for unvaccinated covid patients and keep regular hospital facilities for the general population and for vaccinated people who become infected and need care.

I am serious about this suggestion and not just expressing frustrated hyperbole. We can't let the decisions of unvaccinated people harm the rest of society beyond the harm they already do by spreading the virus.

Yup! Palliative care, food and water, and all the pain meds they want. BTW
all personal who take care of these "non vaxxers" are in the very best PPE that
can be had.

Hospitals are for sick people who trust science, doctors, nurses, and medicine.
And if they don't like the tents then they can go home and get their treatments
from the internet.

I am not suggesting this as a punishment for not getting the vaccine. They are patients, regardless of how foolish they are. They should get the care that they need toward the goal of survival and recovery.

But we need to keep hospitals functioning for the rest of society. We should not let people with heart attacks, emergency childbirth cases, car accident victims, etc. go without the care they need because hospitals are filled with covid patients. Set up a separate place for them. Not necessarily tents. Convert other buildings into centralized care facilities that covid patients can be taken to for the care that they need instead of letting hospitals get overwhelmed by them to the point that care is not available for other people.

See my #71 in response to another post.

We did it years ago for tuberculosis patients. Separate facilities that specialize in covid treatment, both immediate and long term, like a cancer care center. Specialized centers could offer recovery treatment beyond the initial care. Follow up on organ damage, longhaul brain fog, fatigue, los of smell and taste. Research labs for developing treatments and collecting and analyzing data on the affected people, the different variants, R0 numbers, genetic susceptibility.

Covid centers around the country to take in patients at all stages of infection and recovery.

tri·age /trēˈäZH/

Definition of triage

1a : the sorting of and allocation of treatment to patients and especially battle and disaster victims according to a system of priorities designed to maximize the number of survivors
b : the sorting of patients (as in an emergency room) according to the urgency of their need for care
2 : the assigning of priority order to projects on the basis of where funds and other resources can be best used, are most needed, or are most likely to achieve success

None of these non mask wearing idiots who refused to get vaccinated should get science based
medical care or take up hospital space especially ICU beds.

During the Korean war, he was stationed in Naples as a translator in the tent hospitals.
The locals had nowhere to go because of the damage from naval shelling a few years before.
So, they needed corpsman who could speak Italian.
I remember his pictures of that.
Before he got out, buildings were constructed, so there was actually a US army hospital. But, for the first couple years, it was a tent city.

Remaining hospitals could then be reserved for everyone else needing hospitalization. If you refuse to be vaccinated and get Covid, you know you’ll have limited access to a hospital bed.

Perhaps this sounds heartless, but I’m over the pandering to the refuseniks while the rest of the population has to cancel needed healthcare. And what about those with compromised immune systems, which is the case with cancer patients and those with organ transplants. They need care, too, but the anti-vaxxers are taking up most of the hospital beds. It’s hard to refuse treatment, but we’re allowing this minority to have its way to the detriment of the majority.

If you refuse to be vaccinated and get Covid, you know you’ll have limited access to a hospital bed.

I'm worried that a solution like this might be used to set some kind of precedent that would be used badly later. Medical industry is always looking for ways to control costs this way. Their spreadsheet wizards will find a way.

On another hand, this is not the summer of 2020, when COVID was just another illness. Now it's partly preventable and mostly mitigatable by vaccine, so most anti-vaxxers have made their choice. It doesn't seem fair at all that COVID infected anti-vaxxers can then soak up all available medical resources. I'm forced to agree with you - it's a new version of the trolley problem I guess.

I was talking with my wife just a few minutes before seeing this post about the very same thing. I wonder how many people have died because they can't get treatment due to the surge of unvaccinated covid patients.

In a pandemic, responsibility greatly outweighs freedom. Unfortunately, we have a whole lot of selfish people who think their freedom is more important than civic responsibility.
But when they get sick they are very willing to accept medical treatment for a disease they refused to take any steps to protect themselves from.
At least, as of today, the Pfizer vaccine is fully approved. So that excuse not to get a shot is no more.

Unfortunately, we have a whole lot of selfish people who think their freedom is more important than civic responsibility.

Why don't we frame this as your freedom vs my freedom? This is a little less abstract than "civic responsibility". For all I know these fools think they're being civically responsible by resisting this terrible government coercion of making them wear a mask or get a shot. (Just like in 1776).

Maybe they can understand the concept of not infringing on others' rights. I know it's a stretch for 'em, but some can probably make it.

My niece was rushed out of the hospital here after giving birth, even though they wanted her to stay in an extra night because of her iron. Hospice patients are being taken out, no elective surgeries even if actually needed, no room for accident victims, cancer surgery, etc.
