(2,280 posts)The two mRNA vaccines are in trials with kids under 12. Both have been asked to increase the sample size and have added kids to the trials.
With delta surging and schools opening up especially in maskless states (like Iowa here), the weight of the disease-risk part of the equation will get exponentially larger which will be weighed against the much smaller vaccine-reaction-risk. As more and more kids get hospitalized and die over the next month the CDC and other regulating agencies will likely move approval ahead to try to prevent widespread deaths of children.
If I had to bet, I would say some time in October. Fauci said he thought it would be Thanksgiving in an interview, but that it was not his decision he was estimating based on where the trials were in data collections.
