Disney, citing FDA approval, requires all Cast members to be vaccinated by Oct 22nd

Edit to clarify: It is all CMs repped by the "Services Trade council Union", so i guess not ALL cast members? Though i have no idea what % of their staff that includes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today, Service Trades Council Union has released a statement that Walt Disney World union Disney cast members are required to show proof of vaccination by October 22, 2021. The council is a group of a half dozen unions representing tens of thousands of cast members. However, the council does not include every union that represents cast members at Disney World.
The negotiations have not focused on IF vaccinations will be required, but instead on what language and practices would be used in relation to how exemptions would be provided.
According to the statement from Service Trades Council Union:
“Employees with medical conditions or sincerely held religious beliefs will be eligible to apply for an accommodation through a negotiated process. This process ensures prompt processing of requests for accommodation, weekly meetings between the Union and Company to address concerns as they arise, an explanation if any accommodation is denied, and access to the grievance procedure should there be a dispute on the accommodation request. Disney will make every effort to reasonably accommodate employees with a medical or religious accommodation need in their current role or classification. Cast Members who do not comply with the vaccine requirement and do not request a legitimate accommodation, will be separated from the Company with a “yes” rehire status.In addition to vaccines being readily available, Disney will be hosting on-site vaccine events over the next several weeks. Cast interested in getting vaccinated at work should go on the HUB for more information. Vaccines are safe, effective, and free. As of today, the Pfizer vaccine is FDA approved and is being offered by the Company. Getting vaccinated is the best way for workers to protect themselves from this deadly virus.”
The last union yet to agree is the trades Union. Maintenance folks and such. That might be a tougher negotiation.
But those folks don’t interact much with Disney’s guests. So guests can feel comfortable knowing all the employees they come into contact with are vaccinated.
This is a BFD in Central Florida. Other businesses will follow suit.
Notice how the Governor has not said a peep about it? I’ll be curious if he does. But I doubt it. You don’t fuck with Disney in Florida.
Hate on Disney all you want. And there may well be reasons. But they have done more to improve the culture in Orlando in the 34 years I’ve been here than any other source. When they gave benefits to same sex couples way back over 20 years ago it was ground breaking. Now Orlando is a very welcoming city. And BTW, Disney is not in Orlando. It’s 15 miles away. If you come to Disney spend a day in the real Orlando. It will shock you.
The very fact that it is a Florida story about talking to a Union is shocking. Disney is the only Unionized theme park in Florida. Think about that when planning your next trip.
And no Disney employee earns less than $15 an hour. Because of the unions most a good bit more.
