Breaking: Biden has decided to stick w/August 31 deadline for withdrawal from Kabul, a senior administration official tells @Kevinliptakcnn

Notable caveat: Biden has asked for contingency plans in case he determines at a later date the US needs to remain in the country longer.

...so the date is still sort of flexible, if the military comes up with a plan to remain? Makes sense, and keeps the military in control of the airports security needs in a potentially hostile situation, with the Taliban signaling they intend to increase pressure after that date. Becomes less political after the withdrawal date, and allows our troops a more defensive stance.
