A couple people in my non-DU forums say they have already received a flu vaccine.
I called my pharmacy today and asked if they had it in stock.
I was told that they do have it but they do not recommend getting it until mid-September to mid-October.
She also told me that some insurance companies will not pay for the shot until after the first of September.
I will probably wait until the later part of September to get mine.

(32,688 posts)I got it early a few years ago and the got the flu in April. Not a bad case, but it does tend to wear off later. If there is a bug going around, I will get it earlier.

(6,008 posts)... in the classes that I teach this quarter, I'll probably wait until a bit later in the fall/winter to get it, so that it will be more effective during winter and spring quarters, who knows if the mask mandate will still be in effect at that point. (Thankfully, we are mandating that everyone be covid vaccinated)

My dad had shingles, and two of my sister's friends...
So, yeah, gotta get the vax. Probably mid-Oct when the threat of a heat wave is over for the most part.
Then I'll get the pnuemonia one.
My covid booster won't be till mid-Jan '22.
I've never gotten a flu shot. Have't had the flu since I was in HS (16) - I'm now 68. I will this year
Been a combo of good luck, and some long time efforts on my part to eat healthier in general since the early '80's, often extra vits/mins, though I have to cut my increased take out food these past few years.

(16,248 posts)Every year for years now. January of 2019, I came down with Influenza A.. even with a flu shot. I cannot remember ever being so sick. Two urgent care visits, one hospital visit n 13 pounds later, I finally got over it. Get your shots!
