The Truth.
The truth about Afghanistan. The truth about Covid. The truth about vaccines. The truth about the insurrection of January 6th.
We cannot heal as nation until we confront these stark facts.
The war in Afghanistan is ending. After twenty years and thousands of lives and trillions of dollars, the quagmire is ending. The sucking sound you hear is the Defense industry holding their breaths. Their scam is about to end.
Joe Biden has been in the Presidency for 7 months and he will be their scapegoat. The previous three Presidents will mostly escape scrutiny. The people may see it differently than the media and the Defense establishment?
Covid-19 is a pandemic. It can kill you. It is better to listen to doctors and experts than friends on Facebook. There are those that have made it a political issue and they have made it worse. More people are dying because they do not trust the vaccine and refuse to take it. They prefer remedies and cures found on social media.
As for the January 6th attack on our Capitol, it was a domestic terrorist attack. People were terrorized. People were afraid they were going to die. Some people did die. These terrorists threatened the lives of numerous elected leaders because they were following their Cult Leader. There were people in Congress that were complicit and assisted them in the attack upon the symbol of our democracy. We cannot sweep it under the rug. It must be exposed.
We cannot heal as a nation until we confront these truths.

until the left/dems/progressives stop igoring RW radio and force the ad industry to break up the monopoly there will be no fact-based national or local discussions about anything.
they sit in their think tanks (here and in russia) creating alternative realities and made-to-order constituencies and when they see opportunities to distort/derail/hijack the facts in a national discussion (or local - the recal effort in CA, blaming local dems for katrina, etc) they just feed those 1500 radio stations. used to be all they had to do is feed limbaugh the big stuff and his 600 stations would spread it to the other 1000 and they'd repeat it until those were the 'facts' and the reasons democrats or protestors are doing such an such is they want to steal your vote, or raise your taxes, or bring communism.
all of that is free for republicans. until democrats boycott the crap out of rw radio or get 87+ university and pro sports teams off 100s of those stations or start using AI to analyze it on a large scale - or all of it - the ad industry will continue as is and it will continue to be impossible to have fact-based discussions about anything important.
facebook gets all the attention but unlike the rw radio monopoly it is part of the free speech spectrum. fix the radio and those internet lies, like fox's, have a lot less weight

(9,090 posts)any hint of regulation sets off hysterical idioiic sreams of "free speech!", even among ignorant democrats
those 87 and more have no excuse not to look for apolitical alternatives
when one starts the others will be shamed into following, advertisers will head for the hills, and the ad industry will have to break it up

was "the largest inaugural crowd in history" and "alternate facts" and it spiraled out of control.
I've forgotten the final Wapo count of his lies, but it was over a dozen a day. One week after his
interview with Woodward where he tells about how horrible covid was going to be, he declared it
a Democratic hoax at one of his rallies. The interview was not aired until months later.
It all needs to come into the light.

(5,144 posts)Lies have been the bread and butter of this society for a lot longer than the last four years. They just stopped trying to decorate them so that they are more palatable in recent times because they know we won't do anything about it. Well, not anything that they have to worry about at the moment anyway. Hell, Faux News admitted in court that they are not real news, and yet they are still allowed to use the word 'news' in their name. Lies are so common in this society that I am surprised when I hear the truth about anything.

(32,722 posts)Obama could have brought everyone home in 2011 or 2012. Getting OBL in Pakistan should have been the end, but instead we had another endless surge. Obama allowed himself to be bamboozled by the military because he wanted to win a 2nd term. I think he would have won anyway, but keeping our troops in Afghanistan was a mistake.

(6,914 posts)and about how much of what we know as history is flat lies - including lies accepted as truth or at least uncontested (or unsuccessfully contested) by people who knew they were lies - until they became part of history accepted as true.
Why else would Republican legislatures pass laws forbidding truth to be taught in their schools' classrooms?

(3,401 posts)maybe more important after the "truth" is known is "accountability", without the 2nd one the first could turn into a weapon because people will stop believing in the rule of law, and for some who have not realized it already, they will realize there are people with immense privilege who can get away with murder, that the law only works against those who are not in power.
If accountability does not come to those who deserve to pay for their crimes the truth will only anger the rest of us, and that will hurt Democracy even more. No "accountability" makes "truth" useless.

(111,110 posts)There are those that see others get away with their lies and deception and they attempt to do the same. They begin to believe that they will not be held accountable for anything. They become lawless. In my opinion, we see that now in some elected officials.

(2,541 posts)President Biden obviously has a full plate right now with Afghanistan/ Pandemic/ now Ida and a 100 other things. But there are 1000s who work in DOJ/ FBI/ IC/ LE he needs to direct the appropriate heads to remove all past precedent in the handling of investigations of previous administrations bad acts. Jan6 and the Pandemic must be investigating fully. 1 was an attack on our country the other cost the lives of 640,000+ Americans. The gloves must come off.

(15,223 posts)My two cents as to COVID - - -
The CDC needs to reassert itself as the authority. Right now, the CDC has lost all credibility. We need better and more accurate information about COVID. Who gets it, why are some who are vaccinated still dying, what is being developed beyond the current three vaccines to combat it, and what the future really looks like.
As you said - some real honesty and truth.

(23,147 posts)Sadly the media is trying to slant things for the controversy, not telling the hard truth of 20 years doing basically nothing to advance a country that doesn't want to move forward. Trying to make it like Biden did something bad, but of course completely exonerating TFG for being the actual cause of this.
Our only hope on Covid is companies requiring vaccination for their ee or taking other significant steps to disallow or punish the unvaccinated. The courts need to rule against these asshole nazi governors, putting their folks at risk with anti mask mandates for the enrichment of the monoclonal antibody people and private schools. People also respond when family and friends get sick and get vaccinated (all but the true crazies). Unfortunately, there are too many crazies who refuse to do the right thing, so we need businesses and the courts to get busy or we could be in very sad shape for a long time.
Jan. 6th, I am so with you in hoping the perfidy of the repug co-conspirators in the attempt to overturn a legal election is brought to life beyond a shred of doubt.

I think it's infuriating that Trump and his fellow insurrectionists will get off scott free with only some low level foot soldiers spending time in prison.
