All but eight of the newly reported deaths occurred after Aug. 2, with 70% of those people dying in the last two weeks, according to Herald calculations of data published by the CDC. The majority of deaths happened during Floridas latest surge in COVID-19 cases, fueled by the delta variant.
In all, Florida has recorded at least 3,231,846 confirmed COVID cases statewide and 44,553 deaths.
In the last seven days, on average, the state has added 262 deaths and 21,301 cases each day, according to Herald calculations. - MiamiHarold
The Herald will continue to report the difference in total cases and deaths from one day to the next in stories about daily new cases and deaths, as this is consistent with the way data have been presented in daily stories since the beginning of the pandemic. Florida COVID-19 vaccine rates

(22,672 posts)over the last week. I wonder at what point does political loyalty to the republican party's death cult wane. These dipshits are taking their lumps out of what must be sheer embarrassment that their entire life's conservative belief system has been a lie. And now they're taking that embarrassment of failed conservative values to their graves.
How much higher do you think the death toll is right now?

(6,213 posts)It's all in how you present the numbers. What looks like a dramatic drop in Florida deaths from Covid is a result of a new reporting method that allows Florida to report a covid death once the date of death has been officially recorded. This can be days, a week, or more after the actual death.
So, day to day data looks low. But, looking back, the data for daily deaths keeps getting revised upward as the number becomes "official". So it's not so visible and not so shocking.
Pretty sleazy!
According to the Miami Herald, Florida is not the only state doing this.
