"You can pick your friend's nose but you can't pick your family"

American politics is like a family re-union. While you're driving there, you think about where you could bury a bunch of them, and you regret not bringing the body bags and a shovel -- just in case you were tempted -- but when you arrive, you cheerfully try to reason with some of them, even though you know it's futile, and afterwards on the drive home, you promise yourself that next year you really will buy an automatic shotgun and rent a wood-chipper, but you're tired when you get back so instead you just go to sleep
