Its been 8 months since the coup attempt. And not 1 thing has been done to the planners. The gop is still obstructing. People like gaetz and Greene and the ill are threatening with impunity. Im tired of it. Ive tried to be patient. Theres a saying justice delayed us justice denied. Why should I bother fighting for the left is all they do is talk. Either start arresting people or get out of the way and let others who are willing to do their jobs take your place .

It's all over now but the shouting.

(21,106 posts)no, there is no justice for the rich and powerful. Yes, I know it's hyperbole, but it's how I feel right now.
Justice matters.
(6,928 posts)Prosecutors open investigations on appearances of crimes if they think they have, or can find evidence crimes have been committed.
Judges issue search warrants.
Prosecutors assemble a Grand Jury, which can return indictments based on a 50% + 1 decision ("majority rule" .
Then the alleged criminal(s) go to trial with their defense teams (lawyers) who plead to a Jury their client(s) is(are) innocent(s).
The prosecutors plead to the same Jury the opposite.
Finally, the Jury, after deliberations, has to come up with a unanimous (100%) guilty verdict, or the indicted(s) is(are) exonerated if no 100% guilty verdict is reached.
The problem here is the 100% or bust: The orange terrorist would play the victim and ask voters to vote for him just to put all the Dems who "witch-hunted" him for so long in jail for life (if not worse: Hanging 'em all?), and we know he would instruct his terrorist sycophants to do it, and they would oblige in his dictatorship...
We don't want to risk that, eh?
100% or bust... no thanks.
Let the select committee finish its important work. Let NY State charge him with tax frauds?

(3,528 posts)He has a long and skilled history of never specifically involving himself with his crimes. Hes more of a who will remove this pebble from my shoe? kind of guy. Which is a good thing, in one way; the insurrection never had a chance of succeeding, because there was no grand plan from the top. Just vague insinuations about stopping the steal and fighting for America. Nothing concrete, and certainly nothing he can be convicted for. Hes a coward, and he kept his hands relatively clean.
Justice matters.
(6,928 posts)But to succeed at getting a unanimous verdict from a criminal-trial Jury would still be difficult if any MAGAt would succeed at infiltrating the Jury.
And I can't imagine how the fascist media outlets would behave all along the trial(s), if any (maybe way later in time).
But NY State will (perhaps) bring up charges on his alleged financial crimes. Get him the Al-Capone way...
Numbers can't be spun.

(16,095 posts)I mean, they are giving the insurrectionists the ability to go on vacations and ultimately, gentle taps on the wrist for what they did.
Did W pay? Cheney? Nope, not even a little bit. In fact, they prospered and still do.
Remember how hopeful we were multiple times only to find that the people we trusted chose (yes, chose) to find nothing and to let it all go.
I don't have much hope for this time either.
Time doesn't help with anything but some people forgetting that awful things happened, making it easier to sweep under the edge of the carpet.

If it was the Republican Party, they would have taken all of them to Court, several times if necessary. It would be the biggest conspiracy of all time. "Yeah, we lie and cheat to get into office, but everybody does it. People understand there is corruption everywhere."

Have we confirmed that someone coordinated the teams of thugs to overwhelm the Capitol Security and direct them into the building for their felonious activities?
Didn't the FBI just say there was no such coordination?

So, no... No word from the FBI.
Didn't we learn not to listen to bullshit like this in 2016?
"But the FBI has so far found no evidence that he or people directly around him were involved in organizing the violence, according to the four current and former law enforcement officials."

(30,613 posts)Publicly visible evidence clearly gives the lie to that crap.
Trump installed loyalists in the days leading up to the attack.
His cronies bussed in hundreds of terrorists.
His campaign funded the attack, to the tune of $4.3 million.
He and his cronies stood on a stage and told them to attack.

(25,484 posts)For the last half hour all I seem to see is Democrats-don't-fight-leadership-does-nothing. What the hell. How do they know what everyone's doing? Stupid question. The rule is to assume inaction and bad intentions of Democrats and post on DU about your "concerns."

(42,862 posts)Making enemies of allies is not a prudent course of action. Blaming loyal and hard-working Democrats and Democratic leadership who are ALREADY focused on these issues only creates resentment and distrust. What useful purpose does it serve? It's just another example of how some people are oddly willing to do and say things that create an atmosphere of fear and hopelessness and negativity. Negativity generates apathy. Apathy discourages voter turnout. Low voter turnout gives Republicans a chance to steal the elections.
A good rule of thumb for any progressive or liberal minded individual: ATTACK AND CHALLENGE REPUBLICANS, NOT DEMOCRATS.

(1,153 posts)They are trying to run out the string until 22 when or if they win that is the end of everything. Gaetz, Gomer, Hawley, and Cruz should have been slapped for their part in the attempt to change the vote for president. but know nothing happened. It used to be that if a congress person did something like this they would not have been reelected. Not anymore. The republicans are going full steam ahead to be a one-party control forever in this country and Trump will be the dictator. It`s very obvious what is happening and no response from our leaders. This soft approach BS must stop or everything will be lost including our freedom.

(67,782 posts)These are intricate cases against the people at the top. It's not just them seen walking through the rotunda with a confederate flag.
If they don't get everything in order for these cases, it will blow away any chance of convictions, and damage the cases of others.
I'm perfectly willing to wait until they have good, solid, prosecutable cases.

(67,782 posts)....so we can all see what little they're doing? Fact is, you don't build a case overnight or even in seven months.
I can just see the hue and cry when the first cases are thrown out because the prosecutors didn't prepare properly.

No doubt a number of those "low level morons" have LOTS of corroborating statement into the activities of the organizers and those in Congress who helped.
Maybe they should put out a daily email blast, or better yet have Jen Psaki do a daily press briefing telling everyone, including the insurrectionists, what they're up to.
Yeah, that'll do it.

Most of the power of the Republican Party and others mostly unknown to us is outside government. Our people in government have enormous power also, but not enough to fire or control them. The electorate is the only institution powerful enough to either kick out the criminals we installed in government or hand them final victory, as we choose.
1/6 is just a recent event in a long, ongoing and growing crime. Only eight months and frustrated? I've been waiting years to know what former FBI Director Comey knows, when did he know it, and who did he "know" it with? Instead, he so far walks free, so far untouched and untouchable, including by the press. Then there's tRump, who in a dreadful display of power actually finished his term. THEN he was removed -- not by congress, not by the judiciary: but by the power of the electorate.
We really should require them to fear us more because what only we can bestow only we can also take away -- though only when it's time. (How many know that, once we elect them, we cannot remove the reps we send to congress before their terms run, no matter what they do? I didn't for years.)
In any case, it's a waste of time to be frustrated. Our next chance to make some big fixes for real comes November AFTER next.
