Posted By Sanford Nowlin on Tue, Aug 24, 2021 at 12:54 PM
With the Lone Star State's "heartbeat" abortion law poised to take effect September 1, the group Texas Right to Life has set up a website urging people to anonymously turn in alleged violators.
The group's prolifewhistleblower.com site includes an anonymous form to report people who purportedly breach the controversial measure, considered one of the country's most restrictive anti-abortion laws.
The law limits legal access to abortions to two weeks after a missed menstrual cycle, a time when many women don't yet know they're pregnant. What's more, it lets private citizens sue abortion providers and others who help a woman obtain an abortion after six weeks.
As Texas waits for the fate of the law to play out in court, Texas Right to Life's tip site has already attracted the interest of online activists who recommended that people concerned about reproductive rights share fake names to disrupt the data collection.

(58,785 posts)This is going to destroy families, friendships, social groups, workplaces, church congregations. IF it's allowed to stand very long, of course, but since it's gone into effect some harm is guaranteed.
We've seen how mean many people can be. Watch for stories of family using this to attack relatives they don't like. This should also be useful for getting custody of children that would otherwise not be possible.

(58,785 posts)big money from the kinds of predators who were already counting it. But now that you point it out, I'm convinced. It would almost be surprising if one or more of these hyenas didn't leap to temptation, wouldn't it?
These are not the same kind of people who once ran this organization. Instead, almost insane-level RW extremism and corruption are attracting the very worst in hoards and providing especially good opportunities to outright sociopaths. We've also seen that good sense and self preservation are not exactly strong points...
If this doesn't last, though, maybe they can run a state audit scam instead. Lots of opportunities there.

(5,013 posts)A friend who is an abortion provider has actually done abortions on women like that - I don't think I could! I would have been like this MD: "After explaining to her that I do not perform abortions for people who think I am a murderer or people who are angry at me, I declined to provide her with medical care. I do not know whether she found someone else to do her abortion."
The degree to which the right wing projects is astounding. The rest of us are demanding "entitlements" we don't deserve but they are the most entitled people alive. They are convinced that they are special and different. I have nothing but deep, deep, deep contempt for them all! I also despise them.
