As soon as the rethugs stoke SCOTUS, I recall it being said that red states would vomit out bills effectively banning abortion with the intent of getting them all challenged in front of SCOTUS so the court could officially overturn Roe.
Well. Here we are. Texas basically not only banned abortion but gave Private citizens financial incentive to act as vigilantes. Many other states have heartbeat bills or have passed absurd shadow bans.
Seems it is time to ask SCOTUS: is abortion legal or not? Is there even a case on their docket yet to rule on this?

(4,787 posts)It's from Mississippi. It was accepted for review near the end of last term; it doesn't have a date set for argument yet. So they probably won't have a decision until the latter part of the term i.e. spring of 2022.
The specific question they're judging is: Whether all pre-viability prohibitions on elective abortions are unconstitutional.

(5,557 posts)They seem aware of the political landscape and won't overturn it in one big swing.
What probably will happen is a fairly narrow ruling allowing greater restrictions.
And a few years from now, another case resulting in greater restrictions.
Etc.
