Who are the Americans we couldn't get out. Are most Americans who were "left behind"

dual citizens who didn’t leave because of large extended families (in laws, siblings, grandparents, etc.) that they simply could not leave behind. If there are hundreds of thousands of “left behind Afghans” I’d have to imagine that extended families factor in this hugely. I’m wondering what portion are SIVs. Certainly if you’re a US citizen and were notified multiple times to get out, having extended families on the ground would be a major barrier to leaving. Would an Afghan US citizens be able to take his/her spouse’s parents? their own parents or Grand parents? Siblings?

Apparently, we can't leave Afghanistan until:

1. All American citizens are out.
2. All American allies are out.
3. All American military equipment is out
4. All Military Assistance Dogs are out.
5. Possibly, somebody left their keys somewhere and we need to go back for those as well.

...for a myriad of reasons.

There are some US citizens who wish to remain in Afghanistan.

He said that they had a few dozen Americans who had not yet left. Mostly they had complicated family situations (sounded like American married to a non-American) that they were trying to work out Visas and travel documents.

He said some may choose not to leave because of family situations. I would imagine that if you married an Afghani and had children who knew their Afghani grandparents well, it would be very hard to snatch them away and take them half way around the world to a country that the kids and your spouse have never known for more than a short visit.

All the military personnel are out. They must follow orders.

Civilians can do what they want.

At least no more pointless deaths defending a corrupt regime.

"Since March, we reached out 19 times to Americans in Afghanistan with multiple warnings and offers to help them leave Afghanistan, all the way back as far as March." - President Biden

a Visa, Green card, etc. They go every year, but went after all this stuff started, all the warnings, I don't know what they were thinking. I haven't heard of anything about them getting out. There's about 50 of them half are children. I believe most of the parents are from Afghanistan. Just tragic.
