Biden leads chorus of outrage over Texas abortion ban -- and Supreme Court silence

President Biden denounced as “outrageous” Texas law that virtually bans abortion and vowed to fight to overturn it.

Leading a chorus of liberal opposition to the law and the Supreme Court’s refusal to block it, Biden said on Wednesday the measure amounts to a repeal of the landmark Roe v. Wade case that legalized abortion.

“This extreme Texas law blatantly violates the constitutional right established under Roe v. Wade and upheld as precedent for nearly half a century,” Biden said in a statement.

Biden took particular aim at the provision of the bill that incentivizes uninvolved third parties to sue anyone who may have helped a woman terminate a pregnancy.

“That might even include family members, health care workers, front desk staff at a health care clinic, or strangers with no connection to the individual.
