5. It's hard to turn the state blue when redistricting will turn districts into spaghetti.

Without pre-clearance or courts that give a damn about voting rights, Republicans can create whatever districts they want, which means they’ll be stacking the House elections for themselves as well as those for the Texas legislature. We might have a chance in the governor’s race next year, but if that miracle happened we would still have a Republican legislature that could most likely override vetoes. If we had one more year before redistricting, we might have a shot at electing more Democrats, but I’m not very optimistic now.
