The Fate of Afghan Womens Rights amidst US Withdrawal and Taliban Governance

........
I get the outrage of the treatment of Afghan women. As a woman my heart bleeds for them.
However look inward at our own history of OUR TREATMENT of WOMEN.
The GOP whine and said the women of Afghanistan should be released, here? Why so you can treat them the same if not worse than the Taliban?
This country has a sorry history when it comes to women. They have done everything in their power to deny our votes and the rights over our bodies.
For starters, see Texas.
Texas' 6-week abortion ban lets private citizens sue in an unprecedented legal approach

Sure we are not as bad as the Taliban, but is not for the lack of trying on the part of the GOP and crazed Evangelicals. Plenty of stats out there on women and spousal abuse, rape, a subject that GOP thinks is amusing.
Per snopes. all true.

(15,084 posts)Remember the lawmaker who suggested that a woman could swallow a pill camera INTO HER STOMACH to see if she was pregnant.
But that woman? She thinks that Emergency Room rape kits "clean the woman out"? Seriously??

(15,325 posts)Women have been here as long as time, & I wiil always be proud of the generations in my lifetime who fought like hell to secure the simple right to their own bodies.
To have been part of that fierceest of women & men who changed our world for the better is a time in history we'll always have to our credit.
I resent those who chose to deny the generations that will now follow, & will never know the rights of women & girls that our hardest fight granted us.
This is the most personal tragedy of all.
They thought so little of that mantel of reproductive rights handed down to them. It meant absolutely nothing as they thumbed their noses at that "Establishment Mantel".
It literally had no meaning to their lives at all.
Good post, Budi.
