General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsRepublican leaders are skating on Nixon ice.
In their desire to cover for their beloved Leader, Donald John Trump, they are edging very close to a criminal cover-up.
Kevin McCarthy is making threats to private companies that may be asked by a Congressional Committee to turn over their phone records for specific dates. He is telling them that the Republicans will be in charge and they will pay a high price if they go along with the Committee's request. If not already, that is getting very close to a criminal act.
But, it is not just McCarthy, the entire Republican leadership, including Mitch McConnell in the Senate, have decided to cover-up what transpired on January 6th of this year. If there is nothing to hide, why are they trying to cover it up? Their shell game is very transparent.
The truth is going to come out. The Republicans have done a masterful job at concealing it up to this point. Someone is going to talk and someone is going to spill the beans.
It's become pretty obvious that the Republican strategy is to delay and obfuscate until the next election is over. Then they will have control of the investigation. They can put a blanket over the entire smelly mess.

(111,094 posts)It wouldn't have to be a Supreme Court decision but that would be the nail in the coffin if the Supremes ruled against them.

(24,287 posts)during the election. They absolutely had the power to listen to Trump's lawyers and even keep him in office. They laughed him out of court.
If the Republicans are depending on the Supreme Court to save them, they may be deeply hurt and disappointed. They had better have a credible case.
