"Under the cover of darkness, by choosing to do nothing, the Supreme Court allowed an unconstitutional abortion ban in Texas to go into effect last night.
Their decision doesnt change the fact that reproductive rights are human rights.
We'll fight for them."

Women have been dying from botched abortions by unscrupulous providers for decades. The ban in Texas wont end abortions only safe ones.

Even if Texas six-week abortion ban is overturned, clinics will close
The strictest abortion restriction in the country is set to go into effect Wednesday. Experts say that even if the law is eventually blocked, the damage will have been done.
Texas has virtually ended abortion access: A ban on the procedure after six weeks of pregnancy took effect at midnight on Wednesday. Though Senate Bill 8 may be blocked or even overturned it is still being appealed it will almost certainly be too late for Texas abortion providers, many of which are expected to close their doors in response.
This law will end legal abortion in Texas. Allowing the state to do that and effectively close all abortion clinics even if the law is ultimately struck down will give the state what it wants, said Leah Litman, an assistant professor of law at the University of Michigan and expert in constitutional law. Just allowing this law to go into effect is ending abortion in Texas.
SNIP
In 2018, the most recent year for which national data is available, almost two thirds of abortions took place after six weeks.
The law also creates a vigilante system of punishment, empowering private citizens to sue anyone they believe may have aided or abetted someone getting an abortion after six weeks. If a lawsuit is successful, the plaintiff would receive at least $10,000 and have any legal fees reimbursed.
The law is nonspecific about what would constitute aiding or abetting. Legal experts say that vagueness could have a chilling effect, discouraging people from, for instance, giving someone money to seek an abortion after six weeks, or helping them drive to an appointment or find lodging.

Judging by this short video from the DNC, anyway.

(2,403 posts)Your post seems presumptive that the man has done something wrong based on the fact that he is a man. Not the way this should be fought. That would still be infringing on people.
I understand wanting to drum up more support against this stupid bill.

(6,227 posts)How many times it's the guys idea for the abortion. He takes no responsibility and she is left to cope. It does take 2 to cause the pregnancy. When actually neither of them is really wrong it's the nosey folks who can't get out of others sex life who are wrong.

(2,403 posts)How many times is it the guys idea for the abortion? I dont know, do you have data? Or are you assuming that it is on the high end? How many times does the guy even know? Not that he should be required to know, but here we are focusing on divisiveness rather than the foundation of the law which is where the problem lies.

(6,227 posts)He runs the risk of unplanned pregnancy and for that he is responsible. If he is having hit and run sex, well he runs that risk along with her. Simple. But when pressed it isn't his problem its hers alone? Now that is divisive. The law stinks on so many levels.

(2,403 posts)You posed the question of how many times is it the man demanding the abortion? Of course it happens. Men arent always ready for raising children either. Although in the end not he shouldnt have a say in what a woman does with her body, he like the woman has the ability to discuss what their ability to raise a child is. Indeed, how many times? Do we know that? We need to stop the blaming and ratchet up the empowerment of women being able to control their bodies. Before and after sex. Stop portraying them as helpless.
I disagree with the Hit and run sex illustration as though women are completely incapable of deciding whether or not to have sex. Women are just as capable (and free to I will add) to enjoy having sex- even just for the pleasure of it as a one nighter or whatever. I am tired if the stigmatism of sex being a dirty act if it is anything outside of a long term committed relationship.
The entire line if thinking seems dripping with the idea that women are incapable of making decisions on their own.
Of course rape is a different matter altogether.

(58,347 posts)with absolutely ludicrous amounts of reports of people helping with abortions. A few thousand dedicated people could absolutely tie up the entire state in shitloads of potential investigations.
And if those people were thinking smartly, they would get all the voting records and find out who are the Republicans, and report every fucking one of them is aiding abortions. Let those Republican assholes sit as accused people for ten years before they can get a trial because of the enormous log of accusations.
