I see a booming business for IUDs, the morning after pill, and all other forms of birth control.

My mother had 3 kids planned.
Had them in 5 years.
She was done.
But I came along, she was not happy so I was told.
She planned to go to work in a office part time when my brother went to the first grade.
Didn't work out.
Here comes another baby.
I felt like she was pissed off a lot.
I was well treated but Mom wanted something else
I understand what you are saying.
She had a D and C when I was 5, right before my birthday.
She didn't want anymore children.

I bet if abortion was legal his mom would have had one. She told me where she was in Iowa in 40's no birth control.

(2,962 posts)Back in those days kids were on their own alot.
I wasn't home that much.
When I was 10 I was the only child left.
Now my father would spoil me.
He did.
My mother not so much.
She had to be room mother again for 6 years.
I think my father spoiled me of because of this.

(4,675 posts)When I was younger, there was a study that presented information that violent crime including murders when down - 15+ years - after abortions became legal.
And that same study indicated that violent crime was up as a result of unwanted children that grew up to be - not all - uncaring adults.

This is with regards to the new law that goes into effect in Texas today. Anyone can buy a gun anywhere with no background checks. Also I think it's open carry now too, but I may be wrong about that. Why would anybody ever want to go to Texas?

(2,418 posts)The anti-abortion people claim they want to "save babies" and the pro-choice people say the anti-abortion people want to "control women" but I don't think it's either of those things. I have thought for a long time that the real goal, the real motivation of the anti-abortion people, is to keep people from having sex. And to make sure that those who do have sex are forced to deal with all kinds of onerous and burdensome consequences.
As evidence of this assertion, I point to the fact that the anti-abortion people will always come down on the side of their unstated goal, when there is an apparent or actual conflict between their stated goal and their unstated goal. Their stated goal is "saving babies" and their unstated goal is keeping people from having sex. There are lots of things they could do to promote their stated goal that are at odds with their unstated goal, promoting contraceptives and birth control for example, but they won't do any of those things because those things are at odds with their unstated goal.
I rest my case.

(2,418 posts)Thom Hartmann was just talking about the different factions of that unholy alliance. There are the billionaires who don't want to pay taxes, he said; and the evangelicals; and the crazies like Greene and Gosar and Boebert; and the anti-abortion fanatics; and another one I'm blanking on at the moment. Five factions in all.
You're talking about one faction, the rich white guys, but I am talking about another faction, the anti-abortion fanatics. The anti-abortion fanatics are puritans who think sex is dirty and evil and sick and that people who have sex are bad people, unless they have sex only within marriage, under the covers, with the lights out, and only once for each child they have, and even then, they can NEVER enjoy it. Those attitudes toward human sexuality are a huge component of their very essence and core. And they will fight tooth-and-nail against anything that in any way promotes people being able to have sex without consequences or with minimal consequences, such as family planning and contraceptives.
The rich guys don't care doo-diddly-squat about the anti-abortion fanatics' concerns -- as you said, they'll have sex with anything that moves -- but they have to pay lip service to the concerns of the anti-abortion fanatics, as well as to the concerns of the other factions, in order to maintain the power and influence of the right-wing alliance.
So I don't disagree with what you said, Lefty Lady, but I don't think what you said tells the whole story.
