In the late 80s.

We blocked him. Those born after Roe are into their 40s, nearing 50.
They are grandmothers now. There are three or four generations of young women who do not know what those hangars are symbolic of. Prior to Roe, we had more dead women. The GOP wants more dead women, and more white babies.

Fencing out brown people, and forcing all the white girls to carry to term (do you really think the GOP is worried about Black or Latino Abortion rates? Puh-lease....) All because whites are just 59% of the American population.

When I was in high school, 81-85, girls still mysteriously went away for sophomore or junior year, even good girls, even the local Mormon football coach's daughter, who miscarried. She and I were friends, going back to 6th grade.

The difference is those girls could keep their children. Prior to Roe, unwed motherhood was the bane of American existence. So tax policy supported affluent, older, likely more republican leaning childless white couples to assume parenthood for young women whose fertility was inconvenient; forced relinquishment, under the guise of helpful social workers convincing parents to seek a permanent solution to a temporary problem, often paying homes for unwed mothers to keep their wayward daughters who embarrassed them. Of course, the young fathers had no rights, then.

These Dominionist Christo fascists in Texas and Mississippi, and the rest of the backward looking conservative rural landscape better be real careful what they wish for.

I can't believe I have to refight the same battles my mother(s) and grandmothers fought, going back to the vote in the 20s.

ymmv

really, really pissed off.

Just the rural, lower-income, poorly educated ones - in other words, who they hope will be their future base. Daughters of the wealthy and politically connected will continue to have access to birth control (and don't believe for a minute they'll leave that alone) and "theraputic" abortions when they need one.

My birthmother was 20, and valedictorian, about to marry my birth father. Oops.

The social workers weren't working for the birth mothers. They worked for people like my adoptive parents. Whom I love. The whole tale is the counter point to whatever stereotypes exist from the forced birth baby snatch era.

However, the history of women's reproductive health is my life's story...

I had a heart attack at 24, "typically fatal in labor and delivery." The second one, twenty years later, triggered "life threatening v-tach" and left me susceptible to "sudden acute cardiac death."

The GOP would prefer me dead, just in case I might deliver a viable white infant as I drop dead. That hasn't changed.
