(4,167 posts)You can be as sarcastic as you want its the fault of a lot Democrats not seeing the big picture and being complacent in elections, while Republicans played the long game. 5 Conservative justices are on the SCOTUS because of the reasons I named.

(43,049 posts)registered Dems were refusing to vote because they were "sick of the bullshit" or some such thing. They never got specific about nust what bullshit.
It was not many who said they felt that way, but we kept losing elections even wth a majority of Dems registered.

(25,380 posts)From an "Atlantic" article by Jonathan Rauch about a study by two political scientists in which they found "between 25 and 40 percent of Americans ... have a severely distorted view of how government and politics are supposed to work."
"They see the contentious give-and-take of politics as unnecessary and distasteful. Specifically, they believe that obvious, commonsense solutions to the country's problems are out there for the plucking. The reason these obvious solutions are not enacted is that politicians are corrupt, or self-interested, or addicted to the unnecessary partisan feuding."
It's why my sister and her friends (liberals) refuse to pay attention to politics. It's all unnecessary conflict to them and they hate conflict.
