(35,932 posts)It's just that while cartoon visuals of truth are important, and I love Luckovich, and I love being philosophical, there are some ongoing problems that feel -- as in feelings -- too soon to roll into an "all lives matter" moment, as well meaning or insightful as it might be.
Just my opinion.
Your opinion is important and your message is thoughtful.
This topic makes my head spin and it is hard to find any solace.
mr pete and I had an abortion when i was 18 and he was 21. It was a tough decision, but our own. We lived in California, so it was possible. 50 years later, we have few regrets - just a knowledge that we made a tough decision early in our lives.

My story is similar, k.

(1,000 posts)what hurts me the most is, do they really value those lives they are "saving?" Really, really? Texas is at the bottom of every metric for children in a civilized society. Where are the laws that guarantee a child A life? Where are the laws that say every child has a right to food, clothing, shelter, medical care, adequate education that will allow them self determination? Where are the laws and/or enforcement that will guarantee they will not be beaten, molested, or browbeat beyond viability as an adult? When a thirteen year old Texan is impregnated by her grandfather, was it considered that her young body might not be able to give birth physically? Will the grandfather be tried for double homicide if both grandchild and great grandchild die in birth? Full disclosure: my parents died early, brain tumor Mom, heart attack Dad, not THEIR IRRESPONSIBILITY. I grew up in foster care, sure felt like punishment, then cast out to sink or swim at 18 with no training on how to survive in an adult world when you have never made one decision for yourself. I know how much these "every life is precious" types truly believe that. Teaching me to pray for deliverance was nice. Teaching me to survive and thrive would have been far better. Foster care is still the most failed government program in our history, according to a family court judge trying to get elected to Ohio Supreme Court. He lost that election. Not a winning message. But sure, lets dump more innocent children into this. What could go wrong? Maybe the 2000 children who died of abuse in Ohio last year.

(2,689 posts)Texas is the cancer and the cancer is metastasizing. Other states will follow, some even more viciously, and the 6 SCOTUS fascists will sit back smiling at their handiwork.
(Ill modify that: there are 4 SCOTUS fascists and two who just do whatever their fascist spouses tell them to do. I speak of the Handmaiden and the Bizarro version of Thurgood Marshall.)
