Other good news: have another delivery for tomorrow, so that's me busy for the next day.

(92,115 posts)Newsom has strong support in latest California recall survey
"OAKLAND With a strong majority of residents backing his handling of Covid-19 amid the Delta variant spread, California Gov. Gavin Newsom enjoys support from a strong majority of likely voters who say they're voting against his recall, according to a new poll from the Public Policy Institute of California.
The survey released Wednesday night showed that 58 percent of likely voters say theyll reject the recall, with just 39 percent voting yes. The margin is slightly larger than in two previous PPIC polls this year with less than two weeks left until the Sept. 14 election, the latest evidence that the Democratic governor has gained breathing room in recent polls, according to a consolidated average by FiveThirtyEight.
There remains a strong partisan split, with nearly all Democratic likely voters (90 percent) and about half of independent likely voters (49 percent) saying they would keep Newsom in office, while the vast majority of Republican likely voters (82 percent) say they would remove him.
A key factor in Newsoms strength appears to be the overwhelming concerns about Covid-19 as the Delta variant drives increasing infection rates and hospitalizations. Newsoms approval versus disapproval numbers on his handling of Covid are identical to the recall breakdown both at 58-39 percent, the poll showed."

While we cannot take anything for granted, this is very welcome news
and the California Legislature had better get off their butts and increase the recall signatures from 11% to a minimum of 25%, along with other changes, such as if a recall is successful, the Lt. Governor should assume Governor.

(32,677 posts)I truly don't give a damn about any random legislation that doesn't include restoring my right to vote and have it counted. Next we have to get the Supreme Court under control and get rid of the electoral college. And sometime in between, every terrorist who took part in the planning or execution of January 6th needs to be indicted and imprisoned.
Nothing will matter if every American's right to vote is not secured! Why do you think the Texas legislature is being so bold? It's because they know they won't have to answer to the people!

(10,428 posts)Out of a handful of truly critical issues that should have been immediately addressed after Biden took office, voting is at the top of the list.
The ability to have a legitimate election, vote in it, and have the results stand, is crucial to everything else.
Every bit of the good Biden is doing now will be undone if republiqons take control again. And the next pandemic will be allowed to kill most of us.
