Arizona Banned School Mask Mandates. Now Some Kids Are Sick and Parents Are Angry.

PHOENIX — Only weeks after Arizona’s students went back to school, coronavirus infections are forcing thousands of children and teachers into quarantine. Outbreaks around Phoenix are surging. In one suburban district, so many drivers are sick that school buses are running 90 minutes late.

All this in a state that ignored recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and banned school mask mandates weeks before classes resumed.

Now the back-to-school turmoil has cascaded far beyond Arizona’s classrooms, igniting a political uproar for Gov. Doug Ducey and other Republican leaders in this fast-changing desert battleground. The tumult underscores the perilous decisions facing governors in swing states where voters are divided over COVID-19 safety measures and personal freedoms.

Ducey, a business-minded Republican, spent much of the past year getting attacked by conservatives angry about pandemic restrictions and his defense of the 2020 election results. But he has since doubled down on anti-mask-mandate measures passed by Arizona’s Republican-run Legislature.

Lets hope and getting rid of Gosar and Biggs would be an added bonus but not very likely

However there is an idiot newscaster who is trying to be the Q candidate. I don't think she'll necessarily be the next governor though. Republicans are infighting and SoS Katie Hobbs is running for governor.

not just elected officials.
School superintendents.
parents who send their kids to school positive.
People who causes other people to lose work because they get quarantined.
People who get sick and go to the hospital or die.

There should be a way to hold them accountable - there are people who are guilty, culpable, at best negligent who are not held accountable in any way.

No mask mandates in Knoxville per the school board. Kids are getting sick. No contact tracing. Parents are furious and are pulling their kids out of school.

1/3 of the parents in my kid's school opted their kids out.

After one and half weeks, 6% of students tested positive and 25% were quarantined. So many teachers were quarantined that they had to close the school for three days.

Freaking brilliant. And this is middle and high school, they all could have been vaccinated.

ETA both of my kids were contact traced, both were vaccinated and so weren't required to quarantine but tested negative after the three days out that school was closed anyway. I wouldn't have sent them if the test was still out but people absolutely do.

Especially the students, as they are required by law to be there.

This should not be tolerated.

If you voted for the GQP pro-COVID party and you have a child, you might have condemned them to die a horrible death. And that's doubly true if you're not vaccinated.

But you know, freedom!
