Now half of the states I haven't been to are places you couldn't pay me to set foot in.
It is a shame really. Guess I'll work on visiting all of the Canadian provinces.

Michigan would fit well, too.

(17,639 posts)in the least in many states. Someone else must have felt the same way when calling it fly-over country. Such an apt feeling now.

(67,782 posts)I will NEVER set foot in either of those two states again.
As for the Canadian provinces, you may want to skip the three between Ontario and British Columbia.

(2,141 posts)It's really not that big of a deal. I've also been in 20 something countries (not all voluntarily). That was a bit more interesting.
I've been to Europe (mostly Germany) a dozen times over 40 years or so. It was interesting watching the changes over time.
I grew up in Upstate New York, still a lot of nice places up there.

I can say that for many of the States, you haven't missed much. In some, you can drive for hours and have the bizarre feeling you haven't moved at all, flat corn field after flat corn field.
Every time I've been in Texas, I've wanted to get out of it. I've had to go for business a few times. I hope to never go there again.
Regrettably, my niece is there, a young woman. I haven't heard yet how she feels. She's a feminist, and we're very proud of her. I hope she gets out. She just got a new job, and they've let her work remotely so I hope she can leave and come back to New Jersey.

(34,189 posts)Seattle, Vancouver Island, mostly, but I'd planned to take the train part of the way and had thought about driving to where I could catch the train. Problem is every state between Florida (where I live) and Chicago are no longer places I want to add to their revenues.
I may either have to bite the bullet and fly - something I am not looking forward to with TSA and overcrowding. Or perhaps take a cruise that will go through the Panama Canal and go up the West Coast to Seattle. I've seen a few that have stops in Central America and those would be nice for bird watching.
Another possibility is a cruise from Florida to somewhere in Canada and take the train across Canada.
Since this trip will not happen for at least two years - if ever - I have time to make all sorts of itineraries. But I have no intention of driving through "America's Heartland" and putting money into the pockets of those who live there, which was my original plan.
