While their professed values are different from my Lib ones mine being Civil Rights, Social Justice, Civil Liberties, and stewardship of the planet
What is abhorrent about them is their insistence, demand, and intent to impose what they want ON OTHERS, by force if they get the chance.
In the car hearing for two minutes a wingnut haranguing and gloating about their current victory of their Anti-CHOICE cause, it struck me that I dont begrudge them their policy beliefs, its that they want to IMPOSE their beliefs on others.
If somebody believes Earth is flat, I might laugh or even smirk, but I wouldnt send them to Inquisition tortures or even try to persuade them otherwise, probably not even engage them. Its only at the point that they would be on the mass media haranguing and demanding that everybody else convert to their side that I would be upset.

(4,845 posts)even when it had nothing to do with politics. I met a "wingnut" in a game I play last year. He was asking some game basics and I tried to help him out. Then, we grew to chat almost daily when I am playing. Somehow, he started talking about inequality doesn't happen, CA is a hell hole full of homeless people, and he is going out maskless to trigger libs. At first, I told him to stay away from politics but he insisted to talk about it daily. So I end up blocking him. I have a different view from him but I don't start an argument on purpose. I play games to get away from the real world, not to further engage into crazy wingnut talks.

(82,849 posts)Yeah, me neither.
Some dipshit on a message board told me how sorry he was about my living in fear (yes, a Covid-19 thread about taking sensible and CHEAP precautions). I formulated about 30 different replies (most having to do with telling Biff that I didn't care if he thought I was chicken), but finally deciding to just let it go. I sure hope he doesn't get Covid-19 and has to go to intensive care and get intubated and wheeze out the last of his life surrounded by machines and strangers. I hope that doesn't happen to him, or to his horrified friends and relatives who reproach themselves for not telling him more forcefully to get the shot.

(4,845 posts)I don't smoke because I don't want cancer. It doesn't make me scare of it. Doing what I can control to limit my exposure to toxins and virus is just being smart. I am not afraid of getting COVID but I will do what I can to avoid it if I can, or get vaccines so I don't get badly sick from it. It's called risk management. I don't go out and stand in the middle of the highway but it doesn't make me scared of cars.
That "wingnut" disappeared in 2 months and I wondered myself if he got COVID. I wouldn't feel bad if he did cause he went out daily to supermarket maskless to trigger libs. He asked for getting sick with COVID. Sorry not sorry.

The last one I talked to on YouTube comments said he just needed someone to tell him all about the vaccine and please understand his deep concern.
I told him to get his brain out of a bucket.
He just wanted someone tell him what to do.
