How about one who wanted to remove environmental regulations? Or one who would cut taxes for the wealthy?
I ask this because some people are imagining a voter backlash in Texas over passage of the new abortion restrictions. The problem is that, while a majority of voters care about preserving reproductive rights, they dont care ENOUGH to make it a live-or-die voting decision. Meanwhile, a significant share of conservative voter DO make it a live-or-die voting decision and will prioritize that policy over everything else.

(34,857 posts)70% of Americans, or whatever high the number is, support background checks yet elect politicians who oppose it.
In the end, it comes down to how MUCH a person supports something.
You're right. For many anti-abortion voters, abortion is and always will be the one issue they will not compromise. It just won't happen. The candidate could be so right-wing that they make Hitler blush but if they're pro-choice, or even 'let the states decide', it's a nonstarter.
Unfortunately, there's more of those one-issue voters on their side than ours.
No conservative is going to sit out an election if the candidate is pro-choice. They could be awful on everything else - but that stance is what gets them to the polls. They also aren't going to vote third party.
Sadly, there are many liberals who will happily support a third party candidate, or sit out an election, even if the Democrat is 100% pro-choice.
Many liberals have their list of demands and prioritize 'em over choice.

(4,845 posts)because of the new abortion law. I said such law wouldn't make it into the list of consideration for a job offer. Salary, company name recognition, the city/town location, distance between friends and family would be on the list but not even blue/red state would make it, let alone the new abortion law. Just who in their 20s or 30s would think I won't take a job for a small chance of needing abortion. The OP was having none of it though.
People will take or not take the job based on the job offer, not whether it is in a red state or blue state, or a small chance of needing abortion unless you are very politically active.

(32,626 posts)would most certainly give me pause. No job is worth living in that environment. I might need a job, but I certainly don't need a job in a place like that. "Small chance of needing an abortion"? Jeezus. It's my effing body!

I think the spying and snitching stuff is bothering moderate types....
With conservatives many do make it live-or-die voting decision, to the point that it effects non-partisan municipal elections...
