Tribe: This deputizing of private citizens & offering them bounties has precedence in slavery days

And isn’t that wonderful to contemplate.

Sounds like Gilead, says Tribe.

On Lawrence O’Donnell just now. Look for Tribe’s article in The Guardian.

Margaret Atwood saw very clearly where the US could go. It was by no means inevitable, but the seeds were there and being fertilized.

But, instead of hanging their heads they are gloating. How do people get to be this way?

I can relate an incident I recently had. I was in the lobby of my office building and one of the persons staffing the front desk was new, so I introduced myself. In the first sentence he uttered, I knew he was a member of a uniquely American sect founded in the late 1870s and now boasting 8.7 million members, and I knew that he felt that the injustices in the world, the imbalances, would be fixed when God returns and establishes God's kingdom here on earth.

I asked him why he was foisting off our shortcomings on God, and said that the idea that someone can get on their knees and say the sinner's prayer and automatically be 'saved' by grace and go to heaven, and heck with everyone else is absurd. I followed this up by mentioning my belief that salvation is collective, and would be a process of us growing up and beginning to plan as a species - setting human need above human greed.

I bring this up because these are the same people who hate the Muslims and decry sharia law. Now, I'm no fan of sharia law by any means, but I have to ask how a theocracy imposed by christian fundamentalists would be any better. We are seeing what such a theocracy would look like with this law in Texas.

Funny - if you read Matthew Chapters 5-8, it goes against everything this current batch of wannabe inquisitors stand for. Methinks if Jesus came down today, he'd be brandishing a whip and demanding these cretins leave the temple.

of anti-women, theocratic pieces of shit who will supply lawyers and money for lawsuits. All anyone has to do is come forward and they will take up their case, if they aren't affiliated with the group already.

They are probably already on the prowl for their first test case now.

They also probably have a list of people willing to act as claimants.

This "law" is meant to intimidate health care service providers for women and those who help women. Scare them so much so they shut down and refuse to help.

This forces the women in need to feel isolated and alone. Which will make them desperate.

Desperate enough to - well, all manner of horrible things.
