No, she isn't. She chose to sabotage her own legacy, by not retiring in Obama's first term. pnwmom Sep 2021 #9

The writing was on the wall even then, but she decided to ignore it.

And so, instead of being replaced by someone like Sonia Sotomayor, she was replaced by the creature from the Handmaid's tale.

Very impressive justice - but couldn't let go when it was time to let go. Breyer may well do the same thing.
Regardless of their politics, SC justices must have HUGE egos.

She was trying to outlast trump so he would not be installing her replacement. She fought hard, through many health crisis's, but couldn't quite make it.

I admire her courage, and her wisdom.

if she'd left during his first term. Instead, she selfishly decided to take a chance on remaining through a second.

But she refused to. Back then, the Democrats held the senate. Had she stepped down, Obama would've been able to replace her and this wouldn't be happening. Even in 2013, she had already battled colon and pancreatic cancer. That was on top of her age.

It was judicial malpractice to remain in office.

But I agree, after November, 2014, she had no choice but to hang on - it's just a shame she didn't have the foresight to step down when Obama won reelection in 2012.
