AUSTIN (The Borowitz Report)A new bill moving swiftly through the Republican-controlled Texas legislature would institute a strict statewide dress code for women.
Governor Greg Abbott, a vehement supporter of the bill, said that the dress code would benefit women because it will give them one less thing to think about when they get up in the morning.
I believe in the sanctity of human life, and the best way to protect that life, in the case of a woman, is to free her from the stress of having to choose what to wear, Abbott said.
Abbott summarized the new dress code, which bars women from wearing skirts above the knee, sleeveless blouses, and most varieties of pants.
Slacks are fine as long as they have cuffs, he said. However, if a woman is caught wearing jeans or dungarees, she will be sent home.
Abbott dismissed comparisons between the states proposed dress code and that imposed by the Taliban, which has required women to wear burqas. We are strongly opposed to masks of any kind, he said.

(90,740 posts)When they blame women for getting raped, one of the first things they do is talk about her clothing - what she was wearing.
Because in their sick minds, women invite rape by not dressing the way they think they should dress.
All part of the whole "bad girl" twisted thinking and women/Eve as a temptress, leading men astray with their words, actions, and how they dress.
I've talked to a lot so-called "pro-life" theocratic garbage and they ALL think "good girls" don't get raped.

(4,170 posts)almost anything is believable about the GQP, these days--
unless a headline stated that they recommitted themselves to truth, science, democracy and voting rights-- I might find that one hard to believe.

(203,036 posts)And here we thought we couldn't have become more divided. Refusing to take action against a global pandemic, refusing to change the gun laws after mass shootings of school children and refusing to acknowledge the results of a landslide national election should have been more than enough. I cringe to imagine what possibly could be next...

(86,061 posts)Up into the 1990s at least, moromons had such dress codes for all school girls, in fact, they all had to wear white tights. These dress codes were common when I was young, some still exist.
