(149,297 posts)I guess I shouldn't be surprised that these folks are already out there, snooping. But I am, and a bit dismayed too.

(26,694 posts)It seems like the law will be put on hold the first time that theres actually an attempt to enforce it
yet everyone is complying with the law on the industry side - which gives them what they want.
Some clinic has to be willing to force their hand. Im sure there are enough supporters to remove the financial risk
Buckeyeblue
(5,491 posts)That ultimately does this law in. Texas has been careful to not make violating the 6 week ban criminal. But they are flying fast and loose with ideas of standing. And potentially with the idea of any plaintiff being exempt from a countersuit. I suspect the argument will be that these provisions grant special privilege to plaintiffs which essentially make them agents of the state.
Just my thought. I'm not a lawyer. Just a guesser (and I'm often wrong, which makes it more fun!)

The fight to ban ALL forms of Birth Control is next be it pills, IUDs, jellies and foams, Condoms, to banning Hysterectomies and Vasectomies.
Bring it on, Republicans. You will lose bigly.

(4,968 posts)Why would any female remain inside the state of Texas after this? Hell, those Democratic peoples who live just outside the borders of Texas should start a sponsor campaign to help the females leave there en masse. Once those macho asshats realize they only have animals and each other for 'company'... things should change. But, why should women wait for that?
babylonsister
(170,962 posts)And that's besides the point. Why should they? A bunch of neanderthal men made/changed a law. Let's make it better and show these neanderthals it's not ok.
OldBaldy1701E
(4,968 posts)By leaving en masse, they will force that stupid legislature to remove that completely sexist law. I would think that such an action would more than show those idiots that the rest of the human world is done with their childish antics of trying to remain in power. That is also why I mentioned those that could aid in this exodus should do so to facilitate the female departures. It probably won't come to too many women in the state actually leaving... just the reality that they will do so, and can. That should get the ball rolling. At least in my opinion. I mean, the law passed. 'Talk' is not going to make them change a thing.
babylonsister
(170,962 posts)That is not realistic.
OldBaldy1701E
(4,968 posts)And, I would hope that it would be their desire for change that would help them 'pick up and move', not my expectations. But, if there are any other suggestions that might actually achieve the desired result, then let's hear them. (Notice the qualifier... 'achieve the desired result'. 'Talk' has done nothing so that is out.)

Will you pay for us to move?
Hubby won't move unless he can get a really good job somewhere else, even then our children like it here. I've got two grandkids and one on the way.
I think the feds should start a war with Texas. Invade the damn place, please!!! That will finally get us out here.....We can flee like war refugees.

(5,629 posts)Another point, it is not just men.
There are plenty of women who are all for this law and more. They are angry women who are Christians and were, A. either forced to have 6 babies by some dominant asshat for the 'jesus' or, B. Christian women who are barren due to taking birth control pills for 20 years and then wondering why they can't have babies at 40...I know them. Some of them are my family members.
Angry Christian Women.
See my signature...there is no hate like Christian love.
And the kind who are like Ghislaine Maxwell.

(45,771 posts)IF abortion providers no longer are performing the procedure after "Week 6" (whatever that means), how can someone "aid and abet" if there isn't anything illegal going on?
Does this "aid and abet" apply to PRE-"Week 6" procedures?
Does this "aid and abet" apply if I were to drive a girl/woman across the border to get an abortion in another state?
babylonsister
(170,962 posts)after 6 weeks, their loving husband can turn them in if they seek abortion services anywhere in TX. It's open season on women, and the TX gov't has given permission to citizens to hunt them down. Anyone who tries to help these pregnant women will be fair game, too.
I think if you leave the state there is nothing that can be done...yet. But don't quote me.

(32,061 posts)But, if anyone helps her leave the state, they are subject to the bounty. Which begs the question: Will American Airlines (based in Ft. Worth), Southwest (based in Dallas), Delta, United, and any other airline that flies in and out of that state, who flies one of these women to a safe state be held liable, as well? This whole thing is going to blow up in their (the TX Legisllature) faces, and I can't wait to see that.

(4,968 posts)Those companies are wealthy and have teams of lawyers. A single person normally does not have access to such resources and therefore any attorney would just wait until the defendant realizes that he/she/they cannot afford to battle a big attorney/firm and so they will be sued and lose everything over it. The legal system was already unfair when it comes to big corporations vs. people and this will just add to that bias.

(574 posts)because I'd like to know exactly how they are calculating that. If memory serves they count from the first day of the last period- which, no that is not when a fertilization most likely occurs and if that's the case they're padding it by roughly 2 weeks in most cases.

(2,368 posts)...when they were trying to overturn the "Texas Futile Care Law," AKA Advance Directives Law, which allow a hospital ethics committee to withhold life-saving measures from a patient against the patient's will and their family's will. My sister was very nearly a victim of the law, with the hospital threatening to "pull the plug" on her life. Without the help of many people in the community, several Right to Life attorneys, TRTL, my sister would have succumbed to the law.
The director of TRTL called me to testify once again before the end of this past session. Although I was grateful to their efforts for saving patients from the ethics committees' "noose", my anger at what the Republican Party has become made me refuse. I am so very grateful I didn't have anything more to do with them. How any Republican can still claim to be "Pro Life" after what the world has witnessed from them the last couple years demonstrates the massive hypocrites they've become. They've always been inconsistent in their "Pro" life claims, but after Trump and Covid, they're just liars. So glad I didn't help them this year.

(1,460 posts)Governor Greg Abbott, a vehement supporter of the bill, said that the dress code would benefit women because it will give them one less thing to think about when they get up in the morning.
I believe in the sanctity of human life, and the best way to protect that life, in the case of a woman, is to free her from the stress of having to choose what to wear, Abbott said.
Abbott summarized the new dress code, which bars women from wearing skirts above the knee, sleeveless blouses, and most varieties of pants.
Slacks are fine as long as they have cuffs, he said. However, if a woman is caught wearing jeans or dungarees, she will be sent home.
Abbott dismissed comparisons between the states proposed dress code and that imposed by the Taliban, which has required women to wear burqas. We are strongly opposed to masks of any kind, he said.
STOP: Before anyone goes nuts over this, remember -- this is Andy Borowitz and the story is satire.

Their snitch site, was shared widely . . . by abortion rights supporters and clever teens on Twitter, Reddit, and of course, TikTok, calling on the internet to rise up and render the tip line nonfunctional with spam. The calls to action caused a sensation; they quickly made it to Reddit's front page, drew thousands of retweets on Twitter, and arguably most effectively mobilized the teens on TikTok. Almost immediately, the site was inundated with nearly countless false reports, hate mail, and because Gen-Z is wonderful "Shrek" memes.

(15,499 posts)The other meme that comes to my mind is "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned". Maybe "scorned" isn't the right word hear but the gist of this saying is that if anyone thinks women are passive, when push comes to shove, they'll fight like hell. Remember the pink hat marches all across the world? Those were organized in a matter of weeks not years.

* to make it illegal for women to drive or have a license
* to make women turn salary and assets over to men to assure poverty without male rule
* to line women up at the start of work for their daily poke by the male employees (and their fathers, uncles, brothers and local sex offenders).
and ...
* to pass laws making paternity tests entirely voluntary for men
But, seriously, since the court bias has a strong Catholic presence, isn't birth control in all forms except abstinence in danger of SCOTUS supported anti-birth_control legislation?

(18,741 posts)Targeting the Texans who out women who are having abortions, targeting those who sue under this law, and targeting Right to Life fanatics.
Start publishing their names and faces, start letting the world know who the American Taliban is and start making them pay via their reputations and their family's reputations being trashed. These people are un-American trash, make their lives hell.

(1,402 posts)by hosting: prolifewhistlerblower.com. This is the site where "offenders: can be outed in the state of Texas. According to a story I read on Raw Story, GoDaddy can be held responsible for violating their privacy policy. I had originally tried to thwart these scumbags by hitting them with false info, etc. The techie who was consulted for the story suggests that we go at GoDaddy for their clear violations of their own policies. I filed my complaint last night and it has been received, if anyone is interested I will keep you posted

(58,347 posts)of not being pregnant before getting on one of my planes. I would phrase it as "We don't want to aid and abet a woman who might be using our airline as a vehicle to take her somewhere to get an abortion, and thus violate Texas law."
And if I were the CEO of a car rental company, I would require proof of not being pregnant to rent. If I were a car seller, a gasoline station, a bike seller or rental place, or, hell, a shoe salesman, I would do the same.
If we had enough CEOs who care about justice and women's rights who would utterly fuck up transportation and other systems in the state and shut the damn place down "out of fear of helping a woman who might be seeking an abortion", that law would get rescinded.
It would be terribly unjust to women, of course, but it would be temporary.
Hell, I could see employers just firing all their female workers because one could make the argument that the money they earned at the job is what aided and abetted them to get an abortion.
Now that Texas has legalized Nazi/Brown-shirtism, folks need to fight back. This is utter bullshit.

(6,666 posts)"Yes, there is this girl across the street that goes all over in pants way too tight for any good christian girl to be wearing. She looks like the type to run out and get abortions like most people get their nails done. You all need to haul her in and give her one of those intervaginal horrorscopes or whatever to see how many abortions she had. I'll be by tomorrow to collect my $10,000."
2nd Call - Oh I forgot to mention I saw some young guy some out of the house with her yesterday and they drove off. I suspect it was another illegal abortion. You can add him to the list of Jesus hating law breakers. So I'll be by for $20,000 in the morning.
