Since I spend a lot of time driving I need something to focus on, I tried audio books but didn't really enjoy them and then a friend gave me a CD of old radios shows from the 40s and 50s. Now I can listen to Jack Benny and The Shadow on those long drives, more enjoyable and relaxing than the stuff you find on the radio in the middle of nowhere.

(23,487 posts)talking like my grandparents. Sometimes you do hear some really offensive things.
But, I remember there was one episode of Jack Benny where he made a "not that there's anything wrong with that" joke about being gay just like Seinfeld so many decades later. There are other times the joke is about Jack being arrested for being feminine. It's history and a reminder of how the "good old days" were so creepy in so many ways.

(17,606 posts)..I listen to Ozzie and Harriet and all the Peg Lynch shows every night when i sleep. I think its 99 cents a month and there are hundreds of shows. Worth every cent.
I got hubby an Echo for his car and he can download the apps on his phone to listen to shows when he travels.
Also...just an FYI..the iTunes University on iPhones will be ending at the end of the year and there are loads of lectures on everything from ethics to business to art. I downloaded a bunch hoping they wont disappear when the program ends.
I am like you.. i cant even watch or listen to the news anymore unless its local weather....

I use a hearing aid in one ear that is bluetooth compatible with Libby

so I can get audiobooks streamed directly to my ear, even while driving in Mexico.

Some of the old shows are hilarious, and pretty well done. I listened to one the other day that starred jimmy Stewart as The Six Shooter. Also like Have Gun Will Travel.
