The judges should have less discretion in how they charge these people.
We need to see more severe sentences so these people and others NEVER even think of doing this again.
*I hate mandatory minimum sentences they were very unfair, I am just upset about Jan 6th and the shithead who attacked our capital that day.
The Quanon Shaman is getting time served and that does not seem right.

(9,478 posts)They get a slap on the wrist with a little fine and maybe community service. Meanwhile, if your black person who has been released from jail and you don't realize you can't vote, you get 5 years in prison.

(13,058 posts)Those laws tie a judge's hands and may force that judge to apply a sentence that is too long when attenuating circumstances may call for a more lenient sentence. Those laws are one reason why this country has the highest incarceration rate in the developed world. And those laws are one reason why people convicted of victimless minor drug offenses can spend too much time in prison.

(18,486 posts)they are reasonable in the cases of plea bargains.
Lighter sentences are incentives for defendants to plead guilty and save the government The time, money, extraordinary effort, and uncertainty involved in trying a case

(17,174 posts)my understanding is that he'll be credited for time served.
During the plea hearing, Chansley's attorney asked yet again for his client to be released before sentencing. The Justice Department opposed this request, and Lamberth said he will issue a decision soon. When he is sentenced, Chansley will get credit for time already served in jail.

I'm hoping these fools are getting lighter sentences because they've offered up information on those higher up the food chain.

(7,611 posts)Against any ultimate sentence. My guess is he will get a reduction off the guidelines on account of his psych issues and because he is the first to plead with a risk of 41-51 months. Just a guess.
To me he sort of falls into the kook category, not the really dangerous and violent.
