He is trying to thread the needle between his vocal support of Trump and the Insurrection and his understanding that it was illegal and wrong in every way.

When you commit way, it is a lot easier to communicate your side. Take Cheney and Kinzinger, who both have views that I find abhorrent in other areas, they however, understand that the insurrection is an affront to everything that the United States purports to stand for. They speak with clarity on the situation, without ever having to backtrack, say they were taken out of context, etc... Jordan is a trainwreck because part of him understands how absolutely repugnant his position on the situation is. I don't know if he has any personal shame, but he understands how it looks to other people. He also understands that he can get into serious trouble.
