(8,584 posts)Great! I stopped using thumbs up. Trump and GQP ruined that, like everything they touch. Even our flag. 2022 elections should be one thing. Let GQP steal the election, and the country will be just like Texas and Florida. Ya have a choice, for now! That is if we are alive. Watching College ball last night and the UNC game is Blacksburg Va right now there are Literally 100,000 plus at each game. Packed like a trump rally, and one the size Trump claims they are each time. Not one damn mask, screaming waving flags spreading the toxic stew. After this weekend, we may be done. And Texas packs em in for High School, College and Pro. Then travel across the country for visiting teams. Not enough horse paste for whats coming.

(12,134 posts)Glad to see the pressure on GoDaddy worked so quickly. They were probably shedding customers like crazy.
There were other reasons to avoid them already, so hopefully this awakens the unaware to consider other hosting companies.

(10,749 posts)I have quite a few domain registrations with them. I was going to rally up what Ive paid them and tell them I would switch services. Glad they made the right decision.
The problem now is that theyre going to end up hosting on a rw company site, and its been shown in the past that security is appalling on these sorts of sites. And we can imagine what is then likely to happen.

(74 posts)Great that they booted the Texas A-holes, but they are the worst.
Until this week, I had been a GD customer for 15 years and given them $1700 in fees. I got an email from them that they were migrating me to Microsoft 365 email. WTF? When I signed up for the domain, they gave me one free email account. I made it my main email and used it for everything. I even set up a "catch all" feature that allowed any email sent to the domain to be forwarded to another email. EX: pizzahut@domainx.com I used that for most of my e-commerce and that process came in very handy for monitoring spam and even helped me investigate a black mail attempt. When the email came in for Bitcoin extortion, I knew exactly what company had a security breach (ticketfly!).
I called GD to confront them and get the full picture of their email switch, as their email was deceiving. They offered free trial of MS 365 product, but what happens after the trial? Sure enough, monthly charge. Then next year the monthly charge would double. Their CS person was useless, but i dont blame her. "Well at least you had free mail". Really - that is your sales pitch for MS365? I spent hours going back and switching emails for all my web contacts because the MS product did not offer "catch alls". I had x hours to complete the job or those accounts would be unusable. So now the MS cloud product has been given access to +5years of all my emails on the server. I never agreed to that and was never interested in their offering.
I moved all my remaining GD domains to Namecheap and am waiting for that go through. I lose my favorite email, but at least NC will allow catchalls to be forwarded. I had already moved all my hosting to other services in the past because GD renewals were too expensive and not competitive with other offerings. You are not a customer to them, you are a hostage.
GoDaddy caused me significant stress, took my time to work around their greed and forced me to spend money immediately on an alternate service. I also take umbrage to the claim I was getting something free. The only reason I was paying for their overpriced domains was to keep that email.
They sold out their customers for a MS deal. They made it seem like paying $70/ yr compared to free was no big deal. I have other GD stories, but this has already gone on too long. AND ALL THIS WAS OVER ONE EMAIL ACCOUNT!.. Something Google gives away for free!
