Question, On military bases does federal and military law

Last edited Sat Sep 4, 2021, 10:46 PM - Edit history (1)

Supersede state law?

For example, if a state law forbids some act but that same act is legal under federal and military law; if that act happens on a military base, can the person doing the act tell the state to fuck off?

If that is the case, can a military base open its medical facilities to private citizens?

If military personnel can treat citizens during a state of emergency such as floods, storms, or earthquakes, could they also be allowed to treat people during a political emergency such as is taking place in Texas?

Could the federal government set up abortion clinics in military installations?

On edit:
1 civilians can be treated at military facilities.
2 Federal funds can not be used for abortions.
3 Military regulations will not allow abortions to be preformed on military personnel at military bases.

1 is a win.
2 can be worked around with private funding.
2a Federal funds can be used in the case of rape, incest, and the health of the mother.
3 The commander in Chief can change military policy.
3a The fed owns facilities in Texas which are not military.
3b The fed can hire medical contractors.

The US Army Institute for Surgical Research Burn Center is the absolute best burn hospital in the world…and it’s treated over three times as many civilians as it has GIs.

A reason to be proud of our country and Military.

Although we are in bad shape in many ways, still, this country has done some pretty cool stuff and has the potential to do so much more.

If it would just get out of it’s own way!!!

Yes, I’m talking to you, Republicans! And MAGA’s, and Anti-choice, and Anti-VAX, etc.

being used for abortion services. It is not likely a military clinic could take on abortion services, but that is just my suspicion.

and Tricare doesn't cover them. The only exception is rape, incest, or when the mother's life is at risk. Service members seeking one must go to a civilian facility and pay for it out of pocket.

Does it preclude taking insurance money? If the fed doesn't pay for the service Hyde is moot.

Acquired some land throughout the state (of Texas). But didn’t designate what it is for.

Then have Planned Parenthood build facilities and staff them?

Would that work? I also like the idea floated that we set up facilities on Native American reservations.

Can’t do squat.

And more importantly, our US Supreme (as in Supremely partisan) Court can’t do squat about it either. I don’t think.

It’s quite scary that our US House of Rep has to begin investigation into the SCOTUS Shadow Docket machinations. And Sen Whitehouse’s illuminating accusations around SCOTUS as well. Our SCOTUS is quite corrupt. There, I said it.

Since ...well now that I think of it, since Reagan and Bush 1 put their guys on the court. There were earlier instances, but that's when the court turned political tool for the right wing.

Once they it got the Bush 2 and Trump members it just became obvious.

This thread is probably just wish fulfillment. But it'd be nice is we could come up with an idea that would at least rock the boat.

IF I lived in Texas, I would volunteer with PP to drive people to appointments etc.

But, I am not going to volunteer to move there. That is a bridge to far.
