(22,250 posts)We also have a problem with folks only voting the top line of the ballot.
There were 11 State House seats that were flippable but turnout was not high enough in those districts. Some of those were close, but we couldn't flip them. Five of them were in Tarrant County.
I will forever be furious with every voter who did not turn up & those who didn't vote the down ballot.
There were also Republicans who did not vote for TFG then voted the R candidates on the downballot.
Even so, Biden carried Tarrant County and some of our State House candidates carried the parts of their districts in Tarrant County.
In 2020, Biden/Harris got 5,244,886 votes in the State of New York.
In 2020, Biden/Harris got 5,259,126 votes in the State of Texas.
And we should get rid of Texas, since we're a hopeless case. Says the State that elected James Buckley and Al D'Amato to the Senate, as well as Peter King and Gerry Solomon to the House. Right.
I think we all have our own housecleaning to do, though granted, some need more cleaning than others.

(21,425 posts)to Donald Trump. NY at least gave its electoral votes to Biden.
"Says the state that ..."
?? Say what?? My post makes me the spokesperson for an entire state?
No need go back into the 1970s to dredge up James Buckley. (But at least he was a genuine conservative, although I never would have voted for him.) NY has worse current members of Congress, like Elise Stefanik.
But, speaking of past NY politicians, there were FDR, Robert Kennedy, and Hillary Clinton.
Of course, Texas can claim Ann Richards and LBJ from the past. Also, although not a politician, there was one of my all time favorite columnists, Molly Ivins.
But currently, NY has replaced Cuomo with Kathy Hochul. Also currently, NY has Chuck Schumer, AOC, Hakeem Jeffries, and Jerrold Nadler.
I can understand defending your own state and the good people who do live there. I've got some good friends from Texas and nearly went there myself as a volunteer to help with asylum seekers at an El Paso mission. The pandemic put my plans on hold.
But Texas has, after all, been known to go AWOL before. Isn't there a faction of Texans who have recently said they should do it again?

(54,338 posts)But they only took the state 52-46 in the last election, and that's well within the "worth fighting for" range. It's not like we're Oklahoma or Idaho, and it's not SO long ago that Idaho was represented by Frank Church, who used to come out to our house on weekends to pow-wow with my dad, a member of the NY press in DC.
It was my dad's job to know everybody in DC, and I got to meet plenty of them. Bobby Kennedy and he were first-name basis friends, as were Mario Cuomo, Jake Javits, Charlie Gooddell, and a host of others. After my dad passed, Helen Thomas remained a personal friend of mine until she passed, where I never even met Molly Ivins. I was already spending most of my time in Europe by then. Dad never mentioned Schumer much, but Schumer never attained huge prominence until after my dad was gone. Doing a generational fast forward, I don't know any of the current crop of Texas politicians beyond Wendy Davis. I'm more in touch with my own generation, such as Jerry Nadler (speaking of NY), Al Franken, Norm Ornstein, Mark Kelly, Howard (of course--we 12 string guitar players always find each other), and a few of the younger ones (Jon Ossoff, e.g.). Once you grow up in DC, it never really leaves you (I moved down to Dallas in late 1982). When he hit age 70, my dad's idea of retirement was going into Washington four days a week instead of five. It was he who introduced me to Clinton and Gore in the 1990s.
But people like Aimee Boone (now Cunningham), Matt Angle, and a host of others are tirelessly trying to fight against the tide of gerrymandering and corruption to turn Texas back to blue. With Beto, we ALMOST knocked Cruz-you-lose out of the Senate, and it was close enough for the TX Republicans to probably call in some criminal manipulation to save his Senate seat. The fact that no one likes the SOB didn't exactly raise eagerness to save his sorry ass. The Texas secessionists make noise from time to time, but they are few in number, and are to be taken less seriously than the number of right wingers spread throughout in upstate NY.

(21,425 posts)the politics of NY and Texas seems to have morphed into a name dropping exercise of personal acquaintances. Not sure why they were brought into it since I am posting to you, not them.
But it turns out that we do know someone in common. Charlie Gooddell was a good friend of my brother-in-law, back in the days when there were such things as moderate and even liberal Republicans, and when friendships between Republicans and Democrats were more common than today. (My husband was a late life surprise to his parents, so his oldest brother was the age of my parents. Andy is closer to my age.)
Yes, as I have often posted here on DU, we have our share of RWers in NY. Most states do.

(2,962 posts)Texas was run by Democrats when I was growing up.
All the FDR democrats voted to make sure.
My parents and grandparents generations would vote every election.
My parents were precinct judges and I know.
Then they started to die off in the 90's.
We tried to replace them with younger voters but damn if we could get them to vote.
I went to many voter registration drives.
Then a lot of people started to move to Texas.
Many of them Republicans.
Didn't happen over night.
