Is the Texas law a "bridge too low" for some Republicans and Independents?

The new Texas abortion law is not just "vigilantism," as we are calling it. That's true, but, unfortunately many Republicans and independents may respect the idea of "vigilantism."

The new Texas law is not just vigilantism but "neighborhood political committee snitchism." It is unmistakably like the "neighborhood political spies and bosses" of Nazi Germany and of Chinese or Cuban Communist parties.

I think a lot of Republicans and Independents will find themselves feeling disgraced by being forcibly drafted as party toadies to spy on and police their neighbors, coworkers, friends, and family. Republicans who stand by and remain in support of this Texas law can now no longer be trusted among their neighbors, family, or friends, thanks to Governor Abbott and his fellow Republicans.
